Children and adults on the spectrum or diagnosed with ADHD will find themselves in the books, and others will recognise and develop understanding and empathy for their fellows who may travel the world on a slightly different path. Although people with autism don’t have meltdowns on purpose, they can’t control them and feel terrible about them afterwards. Being “caught up in a world of their own where they can do their own thing over and over again without being disturbed.” Delightful colour photographs of cats bring to life familiar characteristics such as sensitive hearing, scampering at the first sign of being stroked, and particular eating habits.

Having a great sense of humour, but not always realising what they are saying. For example, a person with autism may say, “Look at the funny dude with the big ears,” but another person may not appreciate what they say. Sometimes his relatives think they could bring him up better than his parents." Yes, not to mention his scout leaders, the court ... The public school system couldn't handle his behavior & turned him over to the court system, who threatened to take him away from us. Thx to the social worker who they assigned to us, he was released from probation. And his juvie record has been expunged!! However words do matter, and sometimes we get things wrong, and that’s ok if we are gracious about respecting the views of others and are prepared to use their preferred language once we know what it is. that you have any inquiry or need to eliminate any substance recorded here if it's not too much trouble, goI can’t wait to get these books! My 11-year-old grandson has ADHD – and two dogs at home. Sounds like he’ll love this. ox Kathy Hoopmann’s books, using animals to explain aspects of SEND, have pride of place on my shelf. In fact I have two copies of each, so that I always have a spare to loan out. Each person who borrows one ends up buying their own copy as they are a must-have for anyone interested in the areas covered. This revision of All Cats Have Aspergers , has been sensitively updated to include developments in understanding of autism. The gender neutral language now recognises that autism is not a ‘male’ condition and the differences of everyone on the spectrum is beautifully illustrated with tangles of colour. The photos are as endearing as ever, making this a sensitive approach for any SENCO, parent or child who is trying to explain or understand the high functioning autistic condition. Two copies of All Cats are on the Autism Spectrum now sit next to the rest of my collection.’ My main complaint is that it doesn't take into account differences between different individuals with Aspergers. It over generalizes. For instance it states he doesn't want loved ones to hold him. That may be true for some individuals, but their are many children with AS who really really love to be held, who are actually clingier than most children.

One reviewer didn't like he being used. Most people with Aspergers are male. Frankly, I didn't catch it.Hoopman has also stated that in 2006, most people who were diagnosed with autism were male, which is why All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome only uses male pronouns. Since then, more females have been diagnosed, hence why All Cats Are on the Autism Spectrum uses gender-neutral pronouns instead of male pronouns. There is a great deal of truth in humour.
