Granted, these are part of everyday life and so I can understand them being included, but it seemed a shame to me that, in a place of such amazing ancient history, these allusions to contemporary life were given so much focus. Another masterpiece, full of suspense and I’m super excited for the next book and what comes next with these characters and of course some more murders to solve! There are many currents and undercurrents in this small village – there are those who practice the old religions and others who believe in the more recent religions. I have a feeling all will be revealed in the next one, which I will still read as I am invested in the characters now.

While they are investigating Ryan and Phillips have to deal with protesters who want to stop any chance of fracking in the area and Karen Russell who is the leader of the local Council and very much wants the fracking contracts. Bright and brave, loving and endlessly patient, Anna sees the very best in others and seeks always to lift them up. The prologue gives a hint as to what the team will be caught up in but as ever there is so much more going on and things are not quite as simple as they first appear. Pagans vs Christians, those for fracking vs those against fracking, love vs hate – how will Ryan and Phillips get to the truth?

She enjoys reading all manner of books, painting, travelling and spending time with family and friends. com, The Game Collection, Very, Waterstones, BookPeople, The Works, The Hut, Currys, MyMemory and WH Smith.

Ryan and Frank follow the clues, and then a skeleton is found, throwing them a little, but they come to the conclusion of who is the murderer, but who killed many years earlier? When the water at Lady’s Well turns red and the residents of Holystone start to become unwell it is not long before what may have been the actions of a protest group become a murder investigation.Jonathan keeble, as always, brought the whole thing to life, but the story itself was weak and I guessed the protagonists very early on. Her eleventh novel, “The Infirmary”, is a prequel story and is also available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong. In the picturesque seaside town of St Ives, Detective Sergeant Sophie Keane is a pillar of the community. Anna does not play such a prominent role this time, but I feel that may change if things develop in her slight change of career that were hinted at. Accusations abound in the small, close-knit community, and ‘old’ religions spar against ‘new’ while fear runs like.

A fatica sono a metà del libro, lo trovo estremamente noioso, i personaggi sono irriconoscibili, si perdono in chiacchiere e schermaglie inutili all'economia della storia, che ancora non decolla.

DCI Ryan and his team caught a mysterious case of Well turning red, and the entire village of Holystone suffered from poisoning, which caused an older man to die. With Denise threatening anyone and everyone in the building to not let Frank have any treats as he’s supposed to be on a diet, the wily ways of the two of them is something to behold. Lot of focus is on Melanie Yates, who is struggling with the events of the previous books and there is lot of her internal dilema in this book, but it does not overpower the main story. Tough, classy and resilient, Denise MacKenzie is an outstanding detective and friend who goes above and beyond, but seldom suffers fools gladly.

The plot, the treatment of the characters, the style, the language have little in common with all the other books of the series. This service is entirely free, and your details will never be shared with any third parties whatsoever. As ever the Ryan/Frank combo often brings a lightness to the investigations as their banter can’t help but bring a smile to your face, especially when Frank is still dressed as Uncle Fester when they turn up at the crime scene. I count down the days each and every time I know a new book in this series is coming out and this was not exception! Yes, we get it, he is tall and handsome and upper class and white and privileged, but why does this need to be reiterated so many times?
