Navigating the joyous yet sometimes perilous waters of parenthood is an experience like no other, especially when we’re trying to ensure our children’s safety. A smart, approachable guide packed with practical advice for parents who want a science-backed, individualized approach to pregnancy. It’s also been so nice to have for quick reference as needed- I love that it’s all in bullet-point form and that it has sample schedules for each age range up to 6 months old. i realized shortly after my focus was starting to shift towards following all of the rules exactly, instead of just loving and nurturing Shiloh to the best of my ability.

I'd read Babywise while pregnant, and though I guess I got some nuggets out of it, I don't remember much that was particularly actionable. I also very much appreciated the reassurances built in to each section - “this may be difficult at first, but give it 1-3 days to see the result. I personally was put off by some of the recommendations that go against the AAP recommendations, and the "this is the only way" attitude. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. In our 6-15 Month Course, we’ll walk you through changes in feeding, sleep cycles and daily routines.Jennifer Walker, RN, BSN, is a pediatric nurse, public speaker, infant and toddler care consultant, and mother of three. This was particularly pivotal for us since our baby refused bottles and I was exclusively breastfeeding. We did it before the "4 month sleep regression" and did not notice any issues with his sleep in that time period. It’s not just about closing their eyes, but creating a foundation for them to drift into dreamland seamlessly and soundly. Though I’d love to have more structure and was curious how to implement a schedule, the book does nothing to explain how to help put babies on a schedule.

Those long, dark nights with a newborn that were filled with cries, anxiety and fear were calmed many times when we opened our MOC book for advice.Such accidents remind us of the importance of keeping hot foods or liquids out of the reach of kids and being aware of their whereabouts. It also recommends letting your newborn sleep in a room of their own - this is not recommended and has been linked to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Not for everyone (aka it is a very specific type of parent who is down for this sort of scheduling) but for our family, it's been fantastic. And honestly my mental health was in such rough shape for those first 3 – 4 months so it was nice to have something to look to when I could barely take care of myself.

months later, sleep training with the help of this book is one of the best parenting decisions I've ever made. Firstly, measure your baby's temperature accurately, with rectal temperature being the gold standard. It's not wrong, but since it's duplicative of everything else out there, and no underlying reasons are provided, you can skip over nearly everything provided you've read another parenting book. If you just want to do the sleep training, you can just read that part and maybe a section or to before/related to that. There are a lot of basics in here which I found helpful but what I love most about this book are the schedules and routines. However, the real gem of this book is its proven strategies to help your baby sleep through the night, so you can too! Most of the information is generic, outdated, or unrealistic, and certainly doesn’t follow any of the AAP recommendations. The book suggests letting the baby cry for a total of 15 minutes before any night feedings, but he is sleeping really well at night on his own.
