Have you read The Good Eggby John Jory and Pete Oswald? If you have not, make it a priority to read it! This book is by the same author of The Bad Seed, and is hilarious. In addition to being funny, there is a great message that goes along with the book. The Good Egg In this follow-up to Jory John and Pete Oswald’s popular picture book The Bad Seed, meet the next best thing: a very good egg, indeed! This is one of those titles that makes me so happy to be a children's librarian. That there are such talented authors and illustrators in the world who dedicate their time to bringing joy to children and adults through such charming works is a blessing.

Did we miss something on diversity?

The Good Egg is a positive role model for his willingness to help others, his attempt to remedy bad behavior of those around him, and mostly for his ability to step away from his comfort zone to prioritize his own well-being. He's courageous, determined to persevere on journey of self-discovery. He's also eager to forgive and learns to find positive in others and his situation.

The Good Egg – HarperCollins

Have you read the story Winter Dance? It`s a fun story about a fox who is trying to figure out what he should do now that winter is here. While I thought the illustrations were cute, I wasn't completely sold on the story line (or the fact that the 'Good' Egg is any good at all). The message of putting yourself before others is not what I want to teach my kids. The extreme bad behavior of the other eggs is unrealistic, and the author has the Good Egg deal with that behavior by going on a solo journey of “self care,” including going to a spa and “breathing in and out.” That type of “self care” doesn’t work in real life, so why teach it to children, furthering the selfish “world-revolves-around-me” mentality of youth today. I love that the Good Egg is self-reflective and takes it upon himself to make some healthy choices. He gets out in nature, reads lots, writes, paints and de-stresses with yoga and bubble baths. It’s good to present these options to kids and encourage them to find their own calming practices. Jory John is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and two-time E.B. White Read-Aloud Honor recipient. Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close

A veeeeeeerrryyyyy good egg spends its time helping others and trying to be perfect. It carries out good deeds… whether this is helpful or even needed is another matter! I remember a few years ago a parent asked me for books for a 7 year old about being a perfectionist and anxiety about others being less than perfect. This would have been a great story for that kid! Egg is so sweet and well-meaning and drawn so adorably. Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Why does the Good Egg get so stressed out when the other eggs misbehave? Do you get bothered by the activity and energy of those around you? What helps you keep calm and not get upset?I have created literacy graphic organizers for The Good Egg. You can find them at my Teachers Pay Teachers store. There are many activities for each literacy area to differentiate depending on your student’s ability/age. They include activities for: Fox visit other first animals to ask their advice. They suggest activities that work for them, but they won`t necessarily work for Fox. Having read The Bad Seed last year, I was eager to give The Good Egg a try. I actually like this one a little more than its predecessor... mostly because I can really relate to the main character! I loved the art. It was also a nice concept and the message is pretty good in itself that sometimes you just have to let go but the text and the execution wasn't that great. I loved the first book in the series but this doesn't compare for me. The Good Egg book is such a brilliant story! It’s funny, timely, and is brought to life with the amazing illustrations of the oh-so-talented Pete Oswald, who also illustrated The Sad Little Fact.
