As with the other novels, Kingsbury highlights the role of angels in the lives of the novel's characters. This story centers on Mary Catherine. She is in need of a heart transplant and it looks like the chances of that happening are slim. Convinced the relationship between her and Marcus should not continue, she spurns his love for her and goes to Africa. The angels take on the task of preserving her life and seeing to it that her future is in line with the future God has planned.

Book 3 will hopefully hold the answers as Karen leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger!This book kept me reading as we followed Marcus Dillinger, a major league baseball player who is trying to form a community center for at-risk kids. He is also intrigued by Mary Katherine, but Mary Katherine is hiding a secret of her own - she is dying, and she doesn't want Marcus to fall for her. I enjoyed the story and the whole idea of angels working God's will on Earth based on Hebrews 13:2 was a great ides. I love God and baseball so this was the perfect combo for me. Only a couple of things wrong with the story. Tyler signs a contract saying that if he injured the team won't pay for it. That would never happen. Also at the end of the story Tyler ends up in a position that also would never happen. Maybe that is another of God's miracles. In Hebrews 13:2, we are warned to “[b]e not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” 3. Angels protect believers. Seeing lights in meditation is a clear angel sign and in many cases what you're seeing is actually angelic energy.
