This hero have no problems doing the dirty things to get what he wants, and he wants the heroine, badly:) He wanted you just as happy,” said Mason surprising him. “It's true,” said his brother gruffly. “He spoke to Linnet of it at the end.” I just loved everything about this. The set-up was a little bit longer than I expected but once Oswald and Fenella are married, I was so hooked on everything. I loved Oswald's obsession with Fenella and his machinations behind the scenes. I loved Fenella learning the ways of the court. I loved every miscommunication.

But it is the quirkiness of the plot and characters that both elevates and diminishes the story. While the conflict of an absentee husband petitioning for a divorce from his faithful wife is interesting, the way it plays out is jarring and random. The king seems a silly sort who makes rash decisions and sulks about while parading his mistresses within his own wife’s court. It’s hard to enjoy the romance of the H and h when the king and queen are these front-and-center antiheroes. And I like the queen and hate to see her humiliated and disrespected. You might be surprised,” she answered with a soft smile. “He would have been pleased to see you making your own stamp on the place.”We would not suit each other at all you know,” said Oswald. “Enid would be a demanding sort of wife. She would not appreciate a husband who left her in the country while he pursued his career at court.” Did he?” Oswald was startled. “He never mentioned it to me. Just told me to look after his dogs and Meldon,” he said dryly. Meldon was the Vawdrey family retainer and a curmudgeonly old sod that Oswald would rather pension off then keep in his employ.

Few Mus, few differences, some spats happen but the H's will prevails. Vawdrey hs are too sweet and amenable for their own good. Also her personality was very bland and boring, much like the book. The story dragging filled with details about her daily life and her interactions and gossiping with other women. It really took a lot of effort to finish. You must not worry about your bachelor brother-in-law,” he told her lightly. “I am a very dull fellow and do all of my best work from behind a desk.”Afterward, as they lay entangled and depleted, Fen drifted off into a dream about a small wooden bridge she could not cross because a man had hold of her hand and would not let go. She frowned in her sleep until she recognized the ring on his finger bore her family crest of the Bernard bear, and then she relaxed. For some reason, she could not raise her eyes to his face, but she was content to let him lead her away from the bridge, toward an oak tree that stood on a hill.” Fenella surprised her by holding out her hand for the missive. She had herself received a letter from Ambrose two weeks ago that had mentioned no word of it.

Jealousy it seems is a trait that runs in the Vawdrey family. It can churn out some hilarious situations. Unfortunately Oswald’s POVs rarely occurred in the second half of the book. Now Fen is placed in a most precarious position by her current husband's perfidy. She is to be divorced without his even consulting her. She hasn't even seen the bugger in over 2 years! But when she goes to Oswald to seek help stopping the divorce she finds a VERY different outcome... He had grown very fond of you,” he answered automatically. Surprisingly, it was nothing less than the truth. Their sex scenes are really hot. Never a dull moment with them, their interactions are at times very funny and lovey and at other times, very touching. There is quite a lot of drama or angst between them, near the end of book, but the ending is heart-melting. You poor thing. It must be a lot to take in… Indeed, it’s a hard day when a wife finds herself usurped from her husband’s favor.” She gave a mournful sigh that didn’t quite conceal the gleam in her eye. “But indeed it’s true. Ambrose loves another. Even now he petitions the king at his winter court in Aphrany.”It's that protective, possessiveness they show that kept me going in the beginnings. I think it's the transformation you see unfold that makes me love these books. It's like they fall instantly for their heroines and they are clueless about it. They use shallow/selfish excuses to why they behave they way they do. As the story unfolds, you see the love that they are trying so hard to hide. I find that I really love that. It makes the endings so much sweeter. I hate that the heroine, Fenella spent eight years married to another man. But thankfully she brought no offspring from that marriage with her. I detest when main characters have already bred issue with other people. Fenella and Oswald were betrothed when he was 19 and she was 12. She loved him with a massive school-girl crush. But then Oswald went to war and his father ended the betrothal in favour of other more lucrative betrothals for his oldest son. You’ve taken me,” he said gruffly. If she compared him now to Thane he wasn’t sure how he would react.

Just wanna freak out about Alice Coldbreath : r/RomanceBooks

Oswald lost his head since the beginning: he became jealous-crazy! He manipulated poor Fenella until she didn't understand anything at all!!! I loved most of His Forsaken Bride, but the end didn't work for me. I'm very excited to read the next book though, and the books from the Brides of Karadok series. Alice Coldbreath is becoming one of my favorite authors. Oswald uses the opportunity with Fen to untangle himself from an unwanted situation, intending to carry on his life as usual., but he soon finds that he wants Fen as close as possible, and is determined that no one can dispute his relationship with her. As with most Coldbreath books, the steam here is perfection, and quite emotionally hot. Oswald is utterly taken with her, it’s delicious. This is a work of fiction and any names, characters, events or organisations are either a product of my imagination or used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or people is purely coincidental. While I didn’t like Oswald’s story as much as I did Mason’s, I truly enjoyed it! These brothers are proving to be perfect in the possessive alpha hero department. Oswald who starts the union with a cool calculation soon finds himself full of possessiveness and lust. Fen who is used to being cast aside and treated like an old shoe, finds new confidence and makes new friends. She looked nervous, but repeated “I want you to find release in me,” with a slight lift of her chin. His Forsaken Bride started out rather well. I even didn’t mind that Oswald was a cunning snake, who married (kind-off) Fen for his own gain. He of course seemed nothing like the Oswald in Her Baseborn Bridegroom, but that was okay, because that was Oswald being seen through the eyes of Mason and Linnet, so he was bound to be different.
