Description

Manufactured from recycled PVC, this 1.5m long Rigid Roofing Felt Support Tray is a cost-effective solution for protecting exposed roofing felt or underlay at the eaves. When left uncovered for prolonged periods, UV rays from the sun will cause the roofing materials to degrade and rot over time. This can be done as a DIY project as there are no special tools required and the work is not overly technical. however, there are always risks when working at height, so do not attempt to do this job unless you are comfortable with heights and have the necessary scaffold in place. What I can tell you, is the bottom edge of ribbed tile extends 1/3 over the gutter, and is standing on a flat tile the same length. Boxed-in eaves – These are similar to the exposed eaves, but the rafters have a cover that follows the roof pitch. Eaves felt is installed at the lowest part of the roof and overhangs into the guttering to prevent any water getting past the roof tiles and entering the loft. The eaves are the lowest part of the roof by the guttering, where the roof overhangs the edges of the property. The eaves felt is the roofing felt that overlaps the roof into the guttering.

The felt underlay should be pulled tight to ensure there are no troughs that can retain any water. Ensure the felt finishes before the fascia, therefore it is not exposed to the elements, and is not subject to decay. Dry verge caps – An important part of a dry-fix roofing system, dry verge caps are specially formed roof tiles that wrap around the edge of the gabled end for a finished appearance. Type 1F is not resistant to uv light and decays where it is dressed down into the gutter. It was banned from being used in these locations on new homes at least 25 years ago. However, this rule was rarely enforced, in my experience. NHBC recommended using Hyload dpc, or similar, here in lieu of felt.

Keeping animals out of the roof – The eaves should be designed to keep birds, cats, squirrels, bats, insects and other animals or pests out of the roof space. To replace the eaves felt/tray requires erecting access equipment to roof height then removing the first course of roof tiles, then the old eaves felt is cut away a few inches above the fascia, and an eaves felt tray can be slid under the existing roofing felt, ensuring it overlaps into the guttering, then secured into place with nails into the rafters. All felt should dress down into the guttering, so any rain that gets past the tiles runs down the top of the felt and drains into the guttering away from the building. Contributing to the building’s aesthetic – The eaves play a significant part in the roof’s overall look, giving the building an attractive, finished appearance.

Autumn Statement: Workers to pay less in national insurance – but rate cuts don't offset the freezing of personal tax thresholds

Autumn Statement: State pension confirmed to rise by 8.5% from April 2024 – while some benefits will go up by 6.7% Exposed eaves – With exposed eaves, the rafters and underside of the roofing are visible from underneath. These exposed elements must be finished to protect them from weather and wear and tear.

The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has today (Wednesday 22 November) announced a range of tax, benefits and savings measures. We round up the key announcements and what they mean for you. Eaves protectors must be installed with the felt running over the top of them. I would recommend the eaves protector is combined with a ventilation tray, unless you already have a well ventilated roof - most roofs are not well ventilated. Ideally ridge venting or tile vents would also be installed. The loft was insulated 20+ years ago with that vacuum cleaner fluff stuff, piped in from the ground. There is a board floor in there now as I use it for storage and The Train Set (every man has to have a railway layout), compacting the fluff. Now I think about it, it might be a good idea to vacuum any fluff out of the soffits in case water gets into them to give them a chance to dry out (Also, if it comes out damp, I will know there is a problem) After determining how many you need, shorten the final tray so that it fits using a utility knife if necessary. Martin Lewis: What the Autumn Statement means for you – including wages, benefits, pensions, ISAs, housing, national insurance and moreShading – Sometimes, eaves may extend out from the rooftop far enough to provide a degree of shade, possibly reducing solar gains or glare inside the building. The tray has three sections – a 170mm body, a 30mm join, and a 40mm flap. The body should be laid so that it is under the felt underlay with no gap between them, but over the over fascia vent. The small flap at the bottom should be pointing down, dipping into the gutter. The tail of felt clearly hasn't been needed for many years, and I think the watermarks are a red herring, as I don't imagine water going uphill from the tiles to run down the fascia, I'm 90% sure it is overflow from the gutter: I hope that doesn't get over the fascia! With the state of the internal felt, if a torrent was running down under the tiles it would have got in the loft by now. Keeping rainwater away from the walls – Because the eaves extend beyond the external wall, they guide rainwater away so it can fall to the ground or be collected in the gutter. This helps ensure that precipitation does not pool near the top of the wall or get into the wall cavity. Guttering – Gutting collects rainwater from the roof and carries it away efficiently, preventing water from collecting on the roof or running down the sides of the building. It is usually fixed to the fascia.
