When they were pregnant at the same time, they had an epic fight that destroyed both the band and their friendship. Rosie’s took a little longer to get right, but I finally found the perfect artist, only to discover soon after that this artist had covered one of Will’s songs, too – so I had the same song, in both Will’s and Rosie’s voices, purely coincidentally, as the backdrop to this novel! This is a summer read for the die-hard romantics out there who love a book that takes them right back to the heady days of first love - and can break your heart just as irreparably. They fall for each other as teenagers; nineties music, sideways glances, sunsets and bonfires and talking late into the night. I tried to set word counts for a while and hit them quite easily, but reading back, none of it was worth keeping. Suddenly, Rosie’s dream of attending music school and Will’s travel plans are cut short, broken by the secrets they share and a loss they can’t overcome.

A powerful yet tender love story between two people who can’t help but be pulled back to each other. Although this is a love story, it’s not a romance, and the back and forth between characters and prevalent miscommunication is sure to frustrate the majority of readers. Now there will be aspects of the writing that may not sit well with some readers — for example, the lack of quotation marks for the dialogue, some random words and phrases that don’t seem to express a complete thought, some sentences that run on for entire paragraphs — but if you become as immersed in the story as I was, you probably won’t notice any of these things after awhile (as I didn’t).Visually-rich storytelling and a strong supporting cast added to my enjoyment - I loved Will’s grandmother and his sister Amber, particularly. How did you celebrate the big day, and what plans have you made to meet your readers and promote your novel? Elizabeth Strout is one of my favourites – the way she uses setting, and sunlight, and everyday occurrences as vessels for such powerful emotion.
