The pages are lined with a glittery gold foil, so you’ll want to opt for the coffee table as to not hide the lovely trim. One of the highlights of this art book are the many concept art sketches by character designer Yoji Shinkawa of MGS fame, but the rest of the content found in this 256 pages hardcover book are equally fascinating, detailing the unique visual designs for the characters, creatures, weapons, sets and more.

For example, several captions note ancient Egypt as a recurring point of inspiration for several designs which I didn’t catch at first, given how subtly the influence is woven in. Please Note: By their very nature, all signed books will have been handled several times before they get to you. From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience for the PlayStation®4 system, nominated for the DICE Game of the Year Award 2019. Barrenness is a key word when it comes to the feel of Death Stranding’s environments, but the artwork shown here emphasizes that barren does not necessarily mean ugly as these spreads are gorgeous to look at. Much of the concept art, especially for character designs, props and vehicles, are drawn in the familiar sketchy ink brush style.

Some of the vehicle designs include breakdowns of individual elements like sketches of the seat, steering wheel, and gear shift of the Bridges truck. Instead, there is a caption for almost every image or group of images identifying whether or not the art was unused while occasionally giving a little insight into the inspiration behind a given element. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Anyone familiar with Metal Gear will love the character sketches but it was the environments/world I was most interested in.

At this time, the Chiral Artist knew barely any English due to her having Japanese parents and the Chiral Artist's Mother had to teach her. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you'll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others. In addition to all the content already featured with the Limited Edition, it also contains a tip-in sheet signed by Hideo Kojima himself and Yoji Shinkawa. The main designer and director is Hideo Kojima so it's probably not surprising to feel the similar Metal Gear Solid (MSG) vibe in the style of art you'll see in this book.Yoji Shinkawa's art style is one of my favourites, ever since I played the first MGS as a child, I've been drawn to his work. The Art of Death Stranding explores the visual elements behind a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. They only did so once Sam helped bring the Chiral Artist to the Junk Dealer safely, so that they could be together. Even if it means looking into a game with women named Mama and Fragile–who, admittedly, isn’t that fragile. There are even a number of early, unused BT concepts which look like they’d be right at home amongst the eldritch nightmares of Bloodborne.

Yoji Shinkawa, known for designing the characters and mechs for the Zone of the Enders and doing the same for some other game series about snakes, is an artist whose work I can’t resist checking out. These ghosts are truly haunting and I loved seeing some of the extra spooky details that went into designing them, like the golden skull resting in mouth of the whale-type BT. above) This semi-decomposed creature quickly brings to mind the scary Skullcrawlers in Kong : Skull Island. These sorts of layouts always inspire a bit of awe in how deeply the artists consider the mechanisms which make these machines work. The Art of Death Stranding is the official art book of the eponymous game, published by Titan Books featuring the initial concepts, drawings, sketches and storyboards during the development of Death Stranding. Both teens suppressed the memories of the murders, also suppressing the fact that they knew each other. My personal favorite designs are Fragile (who, again, isn’t that fragile) and Higgs and the later gets a couple extra pages showing off all the different ideas that could’ve been in place of his gold skull mask.

From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience for the PlayStation®4 system. Not long after this, the Chiral Artist's Mother told both the Chiral Artist and the Junk Dealer of their shared past, leading to both parties reconciling and getting back together. Moving on to the titular Art itself, each major character is given a couple pages of spotlight, showing off early concepts and beautiful renders from Shinkawa. They unstick easily and leave a very faint white outline as to where they were stuck together, which was only a small amount on the very edge of the page.
