David: All of the veterans of the Long War have degraded since their time in M31, but you’d be hard-pushed to say any have fallen as far as the World Eaters. There are some great individual scenes and storylines here, but as a whole I think it lacked a cohesiveness across the various plots to really drive the story forward. Knowing that this is but a prelude to what sounds like some really galaxy shaking events in Angron's Arks of Omen book does make me want to know the fates of the named survivors of this book as well.

I really had no clue how they would pull off an Angron novel going into this and I was pleasantly surprised that they were not overly reliant on the Grey Knight perspective. He's just rage made manifest, and the narrative makes it abundantly clear that there is no possible redemption for him.That being said, this could be more on the general theme and source material for the World Eaters, rather than a reflection on the writing. David Guymer is a freelance author, PhD in molecular microbiology (which still comes in more handy than you might think), and tabletop warlord based in the Yorkshire East Riding. David: There are three core Chaos Space Marine characters in Angron: The Red Angel , who each represent different points along the spectrum. Perhaps equally great is that the Grey Knights eat up a lot of pages, and I didn't realise just how much I'd missed reading about them. It’s weird too because David Guymer didn’t seem to cause these issues for me with The Court of the Blind King.

It explores the twisted brotherhood of the World Eaters, it shows how horridly enslaved they are and how desperately they hate Angron - just as much as they're still mad for his attention. In a way, it’s strange that I’m so happy jumping on board at the end of the story rather than climbing on at the beginning with so many others. So we learn quite a bit about the World eaters and Angron is left to his entry in the Primarchs serie. He has written for Black Library, Marvel, Aconyte Books, Asmodee, Mantic Games, Cubicle 7, Creative Assembly, and Mongoose Publishing. Half a galaxy away, Graucis Telomane of the Grey Knights has been readying himself for this day, and plans six centuries in the making are finally set in motion – plans that will see the eradication of the Emperor’s greatest mistake once and for all.

They’re more like an overwhelming destructive force, so rather than presenting scenes from his point of view, to ruminate on his wants and ambitions, it’s more about characters experiencing him, and how his presence affects their own lives. Chris Forrester’s Wrath of the Lost is an excellent example of how to make rage more than just two-dimensional.

They could have been larger than life characters, but boiled down as they are to big, stompy, angry men, they sort of blur into one.David: Yes, especially Gorgon of Medusa , as that was also more about the Iron Hands around Ferrus Manus than the man himself, and how he affects those he leads. It was definitely challenging to find avenues to look at that in new and interesting ways, exploring how that rage transforms people differently. The characters tended to blend together as they were almost all very similar, and I found myself losing interest as the story went on. David: With Angron, and characters like him, you don’t really look at them from the inside – from their perspective. There are a few nods to Aaron’s The Emperor’s Gift , as some of the events that took place there – and the consequences of Angron’s last banishment – have a big part to play in The Red Angel .
