The box is less sturdy compared to the rest of the box sets, so most copies of FOTR do suffer from box damage - mainly on the bottom from the weight of the discs. Sure, it would've been nice if there were printed sleeves instead of plain black poly sleeves in the box (but at least they are poly lined! In terms of the 4CD+blu-ray set, things are more balanced and this is actually good value right now in the UK. That also contains all pieces that were sung in the movies, like The Road Goes Ever On sung by both Iam McKellen and Ian Holm and all the original songs like May It Be by Enya and Into The West by Annie Lennox. Anyone lucky enough to visit Weta studios see's this reflected in the creation of films, merchandise and especially the employees attitude.
The LPs also look much thicker than the standard ones: this additional thickness should prevent warping with time.
And sure, the booklet is a little thin, but the music is incredible, the presentation is tasteful, the vinyl is flat and (mostly) silent and you get to own three double albums collected in a relatively compact and convenient box!
