About this deal

It took me a while to get past the first few chapters, but the pace did pick up just as other reviewers here said it did. This poster book is inspired by the hit feature film and contains over 20 posters, postcards and more! All throughout, besides the charming S-word there were f-bombs going off to the left and to the right of me.

This Little Golden Book retells the mischief and the heartfelt story of how Gru and his Minions became the world’s most despicable team. Once again, John David Anderson delivers an exciting, laugh-out-loud, pitch-perfect middle-grade adventure that will have young readers enthralled from beginning to end! When I first picked up this book, I thought it was going to be a continuation of the first book in the series. To top all this off, the bad side finishes off the story and we don’t ever really revisit our main cast. Damali Richards has been and still is in love with a man that she has seen as her savior and protector.

I didn't know enough background to have a clue as to what was significant and what wasn't until the characters (literally) said, "Hey, you know, this is significant! I have heard that the series gets better as it progresses, but I think I'm beyond giving it another shot at this point.

What makes me excited to read this book, is to not only see drama in the first few pages, but AA characters--female AA slayer! They are exciting and funny and the characters are truly lovable, even when they are breaking the rules. In comparison, Minion is a much darker tale (to be expected, as this is a story following villains instead of supers), but one that is every bit as unexpected and moving as its predecessor. When she isn't writing picture books and coloring and activity books, Rachel edits children's books in New York City. So much of the story leans on who loves who, why and how much they may or may not be in love and so on.

I'm hoping the first book was just a little slow because we have to get to know the characters, and the story, all the history, etc.But one must understand that when you bring various cultures, genre and sexes together we all do not talk or act the same that is why we are uniquely different. Even then, Michael is the one who makes the choice to open the box, to go down the stairs, to help his father. When Michael's father gets into trouble with other villains, Michael has to step up and come into his own. John David Anderson, author of the acclaimed Sidekicked, has written another story set in an America where superheroes and supervillains are commonplace, but where the line between right and wrong, good and evil, is still not any less elusive.
