I hope Matthew Holness creates a series from these Garth Marenghi books because I would love to have a lot on my shelf!

This excellent book is also available as an audiobook and although not a legitimate art form it would still be useful to those of you who are hand occupied and earbud compliant. PORTENTUM: In an escalating series of dangerous experiments, Nulltec tries to unleash and harness Nick’s psychic powers. There, he is tested and interfered with by a team of scientific experts determined to nullify his escaping imagination. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I think if you treated this as a collection of short stories and had about a two week gap between segments, it would be a good time. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I can say this much on this blurb (and no more) – not before Nick Steen has faced the ultimate monster. But this second book feels much more like a man with a story to tell than a comedian trying to make me laugh. Believing the ever-extending power outage was a curse that could only be lifted by finishing the book, I powered through Aarabella Mathers and The Randyman.

That happened hours later thanks to the efforts of repair crews working through the dark and stormy night. It was just as good, if not better, than the first and I thoroughly enjoyed each of the stories (my favourite I think was the gothic house).Doomed to survive crash after crash of the airliners his protagonist, which is now himself, pilots, Nick grapples with his emerging paranormal abilities. I attended a reading from this in a large London theatre, and consumed this as an audiobook, both brought me closer to Garth. Yes, it can be mind-boggling how Marenghi can embed a story written by one of his characters within the main narrative.

The end result was very finely tuned to be both listenable AND recognisable as Marenghi's work - The genre and the gags were evenly delivered. This book will scare you so much you will forget where you left your car keys and have to walk to the nearest phone booth. From the word processor (that’s correct) of the Archduke O’Darkness, Garth Marenghi – Chief Frightener, Quakerman and Lord High Petrifier – come three new dark tales.Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. About the Author: Garth Marenghi was born in the past, graduated from his local comprehensive (now bulldozed) with some O levels in subjects. AND the fact that Garth Marenghi thought it was okay to put that IN a script as an opening line is even funnier. The authorial voice of this ridiculously incompetent man is still there and recognisable from the source material. Garth Marenghi, the renowned horror author famous for his spine-chilling works, is excited to announce a 14-date book tour starting in October 2023 for his latest novel, Incarcerat.

The gags are almost gone entirely in favour of a really pretty deep character dissection of Marenghi as a person. He wrote, directed and starred in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace for the Peruvian market, which subsequently aired on Channel 4 and has not been repeated due to its radical and polemic content. Would it have been such a terrible idea to take any one of the mentions of the word "Blood" in this story and swap them out for; "Blood?Admittedly I had understood very little but from what I had understood (again, very little) this book was about to shatter my mind, possibly temporarily but also possibly permanently. Another enjoyable romp through purple prose and ludicrous scenarios, but taking itself seriously enough as a meta literary enterprise that it succeeds on its own terms.
