Description

Summary: An ode to the granny square, with 75 motif patterns and 25 projects using granny squares, along with tips for construction, design, and finishing touches.

The "Crochet Basics" section includes descriptions with photos of crochet stitches (including basics and special stitches), so the book is very beginner friendly. In my opinion, there is not a substantial difference between the beginner, advanced beginner, and easy patterns in this book. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and draw it through two of the loops so there are now four loops on the hook. The Granny Square Book, 2nd Edition includes all of the 75 squares that were in the first edition plus 25 new ones. The book was launched 20 July at the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show, where hung out with Isabel and Nick at the Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill stand in the Osborne Building (just near the front gate). It's not easy to make garments and accessories featuring granny squares look fresh and contemporary, but several of Hubert's creations are quite fashionable. Each of the 50 square patterns is presented in both chart form and in written round-by-round instructions, so you can work in the way that suits you best. NOTE: Steel hooks are sized differently than regular hooks: the higher the number, the smaller the hook.

I thought I was seeing things and needed to top up my coffee but sure enough, it said extra advanced. There are is a section with a glossary that explains any abbreviations used in a pattern, along with some info on US/UK conversion, which makes it helpful to those newer to crocheting. There are suggestions in the book for edgings and how to join the squares, plus a guide on how to read the pattens and charts as well as a couple of pages on ‘Working with Colour’. Working backward, insert the hook into the previous stitch (1), wrap the yarn over the hook, and draw the yarn through the stitch so there are two loops on the hook.

The ultimate in stashbusting, granny squares make quick crochet projects and you'll never get bored of creating them, since there are so many design variations. Thank you to Meteoor Books who provided this book to me free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion. Insert the hook through the next stitch, wrap the yarn over the hook, and draw the yarn through the stitch so there are three loops on the hook (1). This is especially important for garments and items that need to be a specific size, less important for items like handbags and scarves. They may be used at the end of a row to tell you how many total stitches you should have in that row, such as (25 sc).
