Amy, now fearful that her grandfather will slip away before the rift between her father and grandfather is repaired, sets about exploring the family history and piecing together the secrets of her family’s past.

S. it was published by Viking Press in 1979 as Each Peach Pear Plum: an "I Spy" story; the national library catalogue summary explains, "Rhymed text and illustrations invite the reader to play 'I spy' with a variety of Mother Goose and other folklore characters. Julie Ma was born and raised in Carmarthen, after her grandfather arrived in Wales from China in the 1920s. We got to know the older lady quite well: she was a lovely lady - she's passed away now but she was to take medication with her meal every day and her son brought these stickers in that said, “Mum, remember to take your pill, enjoy your meal, love [his name]”, and we stick it on with tape every day.Her parents set up a Chinese takeaway in the 1970s and she took over the business with her brother in 2008.

Chick Lit isn’t usually my genre of chosen text so I didn’t take on this book with too high a regard for it i’m afraid, but it was pleasant enough, nothing taxing – characters quite believable. Encouraging readers to see what jobs people do and to learn about the relationships between people, they offer a delightfully comic and upbeat snapshot of family life. Richard and Judy are normally a safe pair of hands with book recommendations, but they have dropped the ball on this one. In the book we see Amy's mum feeding Ah Goong congee while he's in hospital, do you feel like this is accurate with how your family expressed love growing up? The story itself didn’t grip me and the narrative is very meandering, seeming to flounder at points and I really think Julie Ma needed to make her aims for the novel clearer.

Daisy Dirt's dad is a dustman on the dole, but her mum has remarried a Duke and is a filthy rich Duchess. I completely fell for Amy Li and her grandfather Ah Goong, who were the real heart of the story for me. I was thoroughly entertained and I wish Julie Ma every success with Happy Families and her future writing.

The family spans 3 generations and I loved the Grandfather, Ah Goong particularly, as well as Amy the main character.

This set contains 10 classic stories including Mr Tick the Teacher, Mr Biff the Boxer, Mrs Lather's Laundry and many more fantastic stories to enjoy.
