Before I thought delain sounded like a second version of nightwish while just changing the vocal style, but I feel that they have really found their "sound" now. Hovering close to the original DELAIN sound, it combines synth themes and metal riffs to create an incredible fusion between pop and heavy soundscapes, topped off with a brain-spinning guitar solo. Songs like the soaring previously released standalone single, “The Quest and the Curse”, as well as “The Cold” (the latter featuring a real, epic choir), lure with a bombastic sound that skillfully combines orchestral melodies, epic heavy riffs and marvelous vocal performances.

The digisleeve and limited box editions feature a second disc, containing the instrumental versions of the first disc. Each song on this long player is catchy, full of pathos and a hit, Also the new singer makes a great job and brings soul into the heavy soundscapes. There are a few occasions where the music has more elements of the old Within Temptation in his keyboard sounds - no bad thing - and the album is very well produced, a big epic sounding record, and a very pleasant surprise!

The whole album has a very well-produced feel, and there is a good variety of songs to keep you engaged. What we have here are many elements of symphonic metal married with 80s sounds that are catchy as anything that comes out these days. With some former members in tow, Martijn has recreated the sound of before, new vocalist Diana sounds similar to Charlotte and the album is packed full of great tunes.Singer Sharon den Adel guested on Delain's 2006 debut Lucidity, and in 2023 Within Temptation's Ruud Jolie lends his guitar talents to "Mirror of Night," a dynamic number that has both quiet piano sections and heavy cinematic parts. In the end this is full of energy, catchy lyrics and melodies, and enough substance to make it great. The first two songs to emerge – The Quest And The Curse, and Beneath – were and are hugely impressive, cementing what appeared to be a comeback few would have predicted. That's also the case on "Moth to a Flame" that opens with acapella singing before the metal kicks in with some of the record's best riffs. Many songs are strong, catchy and symphonic in best Delain tradition and also the new singer makes a good job, coming close to her predecessor in style.

While not their finest hour, the very existence of Dark Waters – and the fact that it doesn’t suck – is a marvel, and live shows will hopefully rekindle their fanbase’s once rabid loyalty. Rounding out the current incarnation of Delain are bassist Ludovico Cioffi ( Carnality, The Modern Age Slavery) and vocalist Diana Leah.Queen of Shadow”merges the orchestral and synth-focused soundscapes DELAIN is known for as it weaves melodic heavy guitars that intertwine with orchestral lines and vocal melodies.
