I was particularly interested in this book as I love nature, the seasons, garden birds and also love embroidery. This Felt Bundle is specially designed to make most of the birds in Corinne's Folk Embroidered Felt Birds book.Birds are always a bit wary of something new, but bold little coal tits visited first, and now there are all kinds of garden birds flying in for a snack all day long. Whenever I see a supply list that includes art supplies, brushes, cutters, a lovely array of textures and color in fabric, and the like, I know I’m in for an adventure! Here are a few recent birds, I must admit that I was especially pleased with some of them, but I think the little coal tit is my favourite so far. I set them in embroidery hoops- a 6″, a 5″ and a few little 4″ ones, just the right size to hang on the Christmas tree! I know I’ve often looked in wonder at this type of art and thought it would be too complicated for me to enjoy doing it. This is embroidery that is worked on a separate hoop and then applied onto the frame as one of the many layers that builds the picture.

Judy sadly died in 2022, after a lifetime as a well-regarded tutor throughout Australia and New Zealand at Textile Forums and McGregor Schools (University of Southern Queensland), where she taught techniques she had developed revolving around birds and their habitats, the wider landscape and narrative works. I`m lucky to live quite near woodland so there are lots of birdy visitors and lots who live in the garden all the time, including a huge colony of sparrows who live in the hedge. I think it is the vintage fabric backgrounds that really help these little birds come alive, and a big part of making them is selecting just the perfect piece of fabric for them to perch in.
