About this deal

Fiona and Tim have done more than cope they have set up a foundation in Daniel’s name ‘The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation’ ( www. With two Edinburgh Fringe seasons behind me and a huge variety of Theatres visited things have grown beyond my wildest dreams. The sheer release and teenage wildness that comes with letting go and not being under the surveillance of parents or teachers is communicated through primal movement to music: untrammelled, feral, alive.

This book offers a unique and fulsome guide for teaching/studying this play and includes a detailed scheme of work for teachers using the play as a set text in the GCSE Drama examination.

The hoodie symbolising Dan was such an amazing concept to show everyone had a part of Dan in them and they were also a part of him and… Dan could be anyone. Although it is similar in themes to his other works, it's a very literal piece – the way in which the words of real-life friends and family are crafted into the text makes it so eloquent and beautiful. He began his writing career as ‘one of us’: a Drama teacher, working collaboratively with his school and youth theatre groups to produce plays based on true stories.

The fact that Dan’s family shares their true story with Mark Wheeller and this theatre company, is generous and heartfelt – and by doing so they hope it will help others to understand what happened and to learn from this experience and how to avoid it.Being able to spread the sycamore seeds has had a more profound impact on our students than I could have hoped for.

Many schools lack the capacity, knowledge and skills needed to deliver drug education effectively without resources and support. Wheeller used transcripts from Dan's friends and family covering his life, experiences and the fateful night on which he died. Sean Radford gives a moving performance as Jack, Dan’s best friend, as well as Jacob, Dan’s brother. Told entirely in the words of his family and friends, it explores the decisions that led to his death and the consequences of his loss on his loved ones.

His plays are often outdated and tend to patronise young people, who are nowadays so much more savvy and streetwise. We are delighted to be touring the full-length version of this powerful and emotional story,” says Elliot Montgomery, Octopus Dream Theatre Artistic Director. Elliot Montgomery’s production for Octopus Dream Theatre is powerful, poignant and intensely moving, from the boisterous roistering of the early stages to a quiet stillness that overwhelms the audience. Consequently, young people face decisions about drugs without the information and skills they need to live safe, healthy lives.
