About this deal

It was with a sense of glee that I noted Alexandra Potter was releasing a follow up to her 2021 best-selling novel, "Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up". Nell negotiates the minefield of parents and friends, and faces the prospect of becoming a stepmum to twin boys – well, young men - while harbouring her own very private and secret disappointment. Nell has to navigate choppy waters during these twelve months, with one friend seriously unwell, ‘you can’t worry someone well’, says Cricket wisely; another contemplating divorce – oh, and another. Very enjoyable and entertaining book with the telling of life how it is with none of us achieving perfection or things turning out as we may have planned.

She is engaged to Edward, they are living together, and she has her trusted friendships, as well as her new best friend, Cricket, the octagenarian who she met in the first book. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). She learns not only that ‘while broken hearts heal…you never forget’, but also the need to be true to yourself. oh i was so happy to get this as a ARC i loved the first book, the author is a favourite of mine, this book did not disappoint, i sometimes feel a second book is not always good but this oh so good just like the first one, it had me laughing, crying and shouting, my kids thought i had lost the plot which i nearly did with this book, fantastic read, its a must read.Cricket is still one of my favourite book characters and I adored meeting her again and seeing what she got up to. Like the first book, the shining moments were once again the wonderful friendship between Nell and Cricket. I can’t tell you how happy I was to catch up with Nell and Cricket they have such an endearing friendship and all the other familiar characters in this sequel, they truly feel like old friends! Yes, there were sad bits and that made me teary, but the pure hope running through the book is so moving too.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that this was a bad book it just lacked the luster and shine of the first one.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

We revisited our favourite friendship duo Nell and Cricket, went in a trip to LA, saw a couple of weddings, babies and navigated ‘love in later life’. Third and probably my biggest complaint of all (and once again going by the trailer I watched) by going with a US network they lost all the British humour.Nell reaches out to her great friend Cricket as well as her eclectic group of narried friends, all offering their own thoughts. Born and raised in Yorkshire, Alexandra lived for several years in LA before settling back in the UK. FOGO – fear of going out, of dragging clothes from the wardrobe which haven’t seen the light of day since March 2020 and seem to have shrunk; seeing people we haven’t seen in over a year and having to overcome the awkward, ‘Do we elbow bump or hug? But then something happened that no one expected, turning the world upside down in a way no one could have ever imagined.

These titles have sold in twenty-two territories and achieved worldwide sales of more than one million copies (making the bestseller charts in the UK, US, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Serbia). Alexandra’s novel, One Good Thing, is still one of my forever favourites, and I loved how different this book was to it, whilst still being every bit as wonderful and addictive. It seems that actually they do not see their future invested in the same things and break off their engagement. No old lady hair’ should have been included in our wedding vows as my husband has made me promise this on numerous occasions. A novel for any woman who wonders how the hell she got here, and why life isn't quite how she imagined it was going to be. When you get these kind of haphazard rom-coms (a genre I will be trademarking) you expect them to be fun and silly and light-hearted.
