About this deal

It is first seen travelling north in open countryside before entering platform 2 at Weirwold (Arley). The locomotive used was GWR Mogul 7325, 'weathered' in an attempt to camouflage the post-War BR British Rail or British Railways livery. Despite initial difficulties combined with his reluctance to care for Willie, Tom later takes pity on Willie after learning about his abusive upbringing by discovering the leather belt his mother used to beat him, which he throws into the garden, and does his best to create a suitable home for Willie, such as providing him with new clothes and helping to educate him.

The fictional village in the book is Little Weirwold, although in the film the station had a 'Weirwold' running in board which may be seen in the screenshots below. Greenway, and persuades him that the only reason he wants Willie back is because he loves him like his own son and that Willie has clearly been happier with him than he ever was when he lived with his mother. It portrays the difficulties of both the evacuated children and the communities expected to take on the care of these children. The train to collect him arrives at Weirwold’s Platform 1 travelling southbound, 7325 having been turned to face chimney first again.
