So either the lenses do a handshake and say what protocol they can cope or it is the extra 4 pins that are hardwired in a such a way that it tells the body to go over to EF protocol. Even with the adapter, the total size and weight ends up being near identical to 85mm f2. Lens IS not a worry as your camera will have it. This lens has an outstanding fast focus motor. While the points on the star are not equal in length (likely due to the uneven blade closure), they are each well-formed, converging lines. The optical path includes a complex hybrid aspherical element, in its make-up of nine elements overall. The aperture remains fairly well-rounded when stopping down a little, despite being based on eight curved diaphragm blades, whereas most 85mm f/1.4 lenses have nine.

Here the octagonal shape of the old EF 85mm’s aperture blades becomes quite apparent, while the RF 1.2’s nine blades are a little more discrete, but impressively I’d say the RF f2 retains the roundest shape.
