While your hub will work with either app, you will need to re-flash your hub with a different firmware when switching apps. The image which appears when you turn on the hub tells you which firmware is installed. Supports both the onboard 5×5 grid and the new 3×3 grid (which debuted in #45345 SPIKE Essential set.

P.S. For comparison, the iPhone 4 was released in 2013, and the iPhone 12 was released in 2020 — that’s a massive improvement in just 7 years. Tie – The more nuaced support in MINDSTORMS can be convenient, but is more complex when you just want the engine to stop when the train falls over. All of this helps to work accurate motors and sensors, coupled with colourful LEGO® elements, which means students spend less time building and more time learning. Storage isn’t forgotten either, with 2 sorting trays and a durable storage container included, for less mess and efficient tidying post-lesson. Whether they’re in the classroom or the living room children have big imaginations, innate curiosity, and a desire to explore and take risks. All you need are the resources to tap into them. LEGO Education wants to help. Hands-on learning provides a medium for building ideas and models while practicing important skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. SPIKE Prime offers 4 STEAM curriculum units, 1 Prime Combined unit and 1 competition unit across a range of languages. These curriculum units are all for middle school students in grades 6-8. Each curriculum unit includes lesson plans and teaching resources for 6-8, 45-minute lessons (including an open project, 2 x 45 min). Additionally, each lesson includes 30+ minutes of language arts or math extensions. Therefore, each curriculum unit contains a total of 6–10 hours of educational content.

The Hub uses standard USB 500mA charging current. The charging time (from empty to full) is approximately 3 hours. Classroom example: Test the efficiency of two different grabber designs and determine the best one based on specific test criteria. The selection of Powered Up motors and sensors also reflects an upgrade from the previous generation, largely due to the increased interoperability between motors within and outside of the Mindstorms product line. The biggest outstanding downside is the inability to run Powered Up off of a wall outlet using officially released LEGO accessories. Since I spent so much time with this set, I have prepared a different conclusion for different audiences. I’ve also offered an overall assessment of the Powered Up system as a whole, since this set (and the recent #45345 SPIKE Essential Set) complete The LEGO Group’s transition to Powered Up. The EV3’s ARM926EJ-S CPU is rated at 1.1 DMIPS/MHz (per this forum post at community.arm.com), and an estimated 611 coremark (per zephray.me/coremark.

Like all of the elements in the LEGO Learning System, the SPIKE App is available in 22 languages: English (US), English (UK), English (AU), Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Russian, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, French, Italian, Korean, Portuguese (BR), Spanish, Spanish (MX), Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and Arabic. When a user connects a Hub to their device, the app verifies compatibility with the installed version of the OS. If it’s not compatible, the app notifies the user that the OS must be updated before continuing. LEGO ® Education SPIKE ™ Prime is part of the LEGO ® Learning System. It’s an exciting hands-on solution that uses playful learning experiences to engage primary school students in STEAM learning, putting them on the path to becoming resilient, independent thinkers. Tie – The Spike app has lots of learning modules, but the Mindstorm app is more feature-rich for building custom programs. These solutions have different learning focuses. LEGO ® Education BricQ Motion Prime is designed as a hands-on introduction to the LEGO Learning System with a focus on physical science and experimenting with forces, motion, and interactions. It’s an analog solution that doesn’t require any technology.Every lesson is designed to help students develop a full range of STEAM skills. SPIKE Prime mainly covers curriculum standards within science, engineering, and computer science, with extension activities that contribute to literacy and math. The lessons plans form the heart of the LEGO Education SPIKE app and the main way that many educators will use this set in their classrooms. Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell in the app which lessons require the expansion set!
