These experiences have honed my palate and provided me with a profound understanding of the vast world of spirits.

Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Glengoyne’s marketing is very adamant that the whisky has absolutely no peat character at all, either from the process water or from the barley, which is unusual at zero ppm (even traditionally unpeated Highlanders like Glenlivet have around 2 ppm). The distillery has a right to market its insistence on showcasing the barley, as it is one of two remaining producers that use Golden Promise barley. The other is The Macallan. Golden Promise is considered to be of higher quality, but much more expensive to grow than high-yield commercial strains. The distillery uses a mix of first-fill sherry, refill sherry, and ex-bourbon casks, although its whisky is immediately recognizable as a sherried Highland-style whisky. The 12-year, now bottled at 43% ABV, also uses some first-fill Hogshead ex-bourbon barrels – a first for Glengoyne. All Glengoyne has natural color, but this bottling (and all other Glengoyne, except the cask-strength version) is chill-filtered. In this personal blog, I share my knowledge and insights on Whisky, Whiskey & Bourbon and other spirits, drawing from my 30 years of extensive experience.Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”). The wash is then distilled in copper-pot stills, with Glengoyne’s slow distillation process setting it apart from other distilleries in Scotland. Aging

What does Glengoyne mean?Palate: Very strong oak, can definitely taste the barrel. Tingles the tongue. But very sweet, apples and apricots. Water actually brings out more oak, but other citrus flavours which help to soften it. Honey and treacle. With hints of pepper and spice. Almonds. Aged for 12 years in a mix of first-fill sherry, refill sherry, and ex-bourbon and first-fill Hogshead ex-bourbon barrels. How to drink it? This was the dram that was used to welcome visitors at the distillery on the Malt Master tour, just as we settled in for the introduction. My wife was the driver for the day, as I was mixing whisky, so we decanted that into a little sample bottle for me to try at home. Though I enjoyed it on the day, I’m glad I did have the chance to analyse it at home because it turned out to be a very nice whisky indeed. Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV) which is a bit above the minimum required by the laws that govern Scotch Whisky. Does it expire? Smell: Honey, apple and orange zest. Toffee. Malted barley. Shortcrust pastry. Woody spice. Touch of sherry. Vanilla.
