Last night B&K Structures attended the Wood Awards, alongside representatives from Stora Enso, Engenuiti and HLM Architects, where our project NMIS (National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland) was highly commended for the Structural Award in the Building category.

The new NMIS headquarters pushes the boundaries for the application of engineered timber, creating a BREEAM Outstanding, inspirational learning environment with a unique structural identity. Aiming to promote collaborative working, sustainability and innovation, the facility’s design maximises the technical and aesthetic capabilities of engineered timber, creating an advanced two-storey structure that is carbon neutral and optimised for productivity.The BKS and BKHS team are looking forward to attending the Wood Awards ceremony later this week, where our project NMIS (National Manufacturing Institute Scotland) has been shortlisted in the prestigious Buildings Category. So-called ‘self-charging’ hybrid SUVs combine a petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor. Plug-in hybrid SUVs have batteries that can be recharged, and can run on pure electric power for longer distances. Without going down the ‘SUV coupe’ route, Honda has given its new HR-V sportier looks than most rivals.That led to PKF Smith Cooper being instructed to undertake an accelerated merger and acquisition process, in a bid to find a buyer. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine is coupled to a 131PS electric motor, which helps reduce CO2 emissions to 122g/km and provides an official fuel economy figure of 52mpg. The new state-of-the-art Learning Campus has been designed by Reiach and Hall Architects as a Net Zero Carbon Pathfinder Project with the Scottish Futures Trust. The low carbon construction materials were specified with the aim for the new college campus building to be the first #netzero tertiary education building in Scotland.
