There are various methods for achieving a matte finish: using a primer with a high epoxy content, a high PVC content in the paint itself, or a flattening agent in the lacquer. Whichever method is used, the paint absorbs more light than it reflects, producing a dull sheen with a certain texture to the colour that has an appeal. Once the panels or profiles have been cut or installed we regard this as an acceptance of their quality and suitability for purpose and therefore we cannot accept any subsequent claims for faults or damage. A metallic paint has tiny pieces of aluminium powder mixed into the paint. The metal particles reflect light, hence the shine. Metallics look their best under direct, natural light, but even on a dull day they still shine. When white light falls on a multi-layer pigment, some is reflected on the metal oxide-coated surface. Reflection produces a phase shift of half a wavelength. The rest of the light passes through the outer layer, and some of the light is again reflected at the surface of the mica. It emerges from the pigment parallel to the first reflected component but with a different phase relationship which depends on how much further it travels through the metal oxide coated layer. The ‘Colyn’ part of the fabric has a herringbone effect, which lifts the ambience, while the ‘leather’ is actually a man-made replica of cow hide. That should please the vegans. The process would be paint with your Chalk Paint™, apply your Matt Lacquer and then over that you would put your Pearlescent Glaze. Alternatively, you can finish by waxing it, which is no problem at all. It will actually matte it slightly. The other thing you can’t do is wax it and then put the pearl paint on top, because wax is obviously oily so you can’t do it the alternative way. But yes, more or less everything’s possible. The vast majority of cars come with a ‘solid’ paint finish as standard, with metallic and pearlescent finishes costing extra (see below). Titanium white coated micas produce luster and give a sense of depth due to reflection, transmission, and further reflection from many layers. A luster impression is observed since the eye collects light reflected from platelets at different layers and, therefore, a sense of depth. Going even further, most high-end car manufacturers can create any colour you like. If you want your car to match your goldfish, or you want an entirely new colour, they will gladly oblige.
