Note: You must max out the volume on the headphone itself, otherwise you will find the source amp will need a lot more power than is needed. The revamped Sennheiser Smart Control app offers further means of customising noise cancelling with Wind ANC or pausing music automatically when the Transparency mode is activated. There’s a three-band setting to create a customised sound, Bass Boost and Podcast sound modes.

At normal volume levels the Momentum 4 Wireless can sound a little reserved and within themselves, but as seems to be case with many wireless headphones, raising the volume opens them up. Once a volume level has been found, the Sennheisers sound poised and precise. What the Momentum 4 Wireless are tuned for is to furnish music with high levels of clarity and detail, adopting a neutral tone and expansive soundstage that’s slightly bigger and wider than the WH-1000XM4. The level of detail these headphones deliver is extensive from a broad sense to a more minute one, the cymbal crashes in Miles Davis’ So What (Tidal Master) are conveyed with impressive subtlety, the trumpets expressive in tone, the headphones producing a pleasant, cordial sound that’s easy on the ears. Some headphones you like, these transducers you might love. I personally wont give it away again, it became my current reference standard. Conclusion and alternatives Considering that most notes in music live in the bass and mids, a flat response here—all notes roughly the same volume—means that your music will reflect how the producer mixed the sound more than how your speakers affect the sound on their own. This is really great for those of you who don’t want their skulls rattled by bass, and those who want to hear more details in their music. The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless is one of the best true wireless earbuds in this regard, but not everyone likes this sound. If you like strong bass overemphasis, these in-ears aren’t for you. Mids, highs We've converted this review to Test Bench 1.6 , which updates how we measure latency. We've updated and renamed the following test groups: Wired Connection, Bluetooth Connection, and Wireless Connection (Dongle). We've also added new codec latency measurements and provided an audio sample of recorded latency.

cough... … You serious?! The Momentum 4 Wireless has literally 4 times the battery life of the Momentum 3! While this never posed an issue for me as my use case was pretty static, my daily bus commute, I can see this being an issue for those who use the Momentum 3 for the entirety of their day such as office workers or students, not to mention those who travel. Besides the increased battery life, the Momentum 4 Wireless also charges quite a bit faster (charge level vs playtime) as well. Battery time - Up to 60 hrs music playtime via Bluetooth and with ANC (test condition: iPhone, mid volume level) Sennheiser hasn’t lost its touch for making impressive headphones, but can the Momentum 4 Wireless win out over their close competitors? How long does the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless battery last?

The Momentum 4 Wireless’ mids are slightly forward, while the Momentum 3’s midrange is more linear. For the latter this does not translate to a more natural or better sounding midrange. The Momentum 4 Wireless’s midrange is slightly more refined and poses more accurate timbre. This isn’t to say that the Sennheiser headphones underwhelm – they’re strong when dealing with crowd noise, hushing voices, as well as handling traffic on a busy day in central London just fine. They impress in a variety of environments. But whether listening in their ANC or Adaptive modes, the Bose and the Sony deliver a quieter performance; there remains a degree of ambient noise that I can hear through the Sennheisers. The clarity of the Transparency mode is very clear and detailed, up there with the best, and doesn’t affect the quality of the audio.
