Orange Cream – A burst of orange flavour erupts from inside the dark chocolate shell of these ever-popular sweets.

Thorntons – Another classic British chocolate maker, Thorntons specialise in gift boxes featuring favourites like Turkish delight, milk chocolate brazils, fruit fondant and coffee creams. Even better, you can personalise your gift boxes to add the name of the recipient and a message, a nice touch if you are buying them as a present. Lindt – The Swiss chocolatier Lindt makes beautiful Neapolitans (solid chocolate chunks), eggs and chocolate figures that are probably a cut above Quality Street and Roses. Then again, you get less for your money, although what you do get is exceptional. Such was his enthusiasm that he suggested they remove the strawberry or orange flavours from the tins, longstanding favourites of which he is not a fan, and replace them with the white chocolate. Like Heroes, they comprises miniature versions of the chocolate brands owned by the manufacturer - Mars. I weighed Nestle Quality Street chocolates from a 650g tub to get an average weight per chocolate for each type.Well, parent brand Nestle seem to be trying to deal with both problems but still have a way to go. For instance, they source around 23% of their cacao from fair trade producers and only 16% of its palm oil was certified as sustainably produced in 2014. Palm oil is a major driver of deforestation in countries like Indonesia, so this may be a concern for some customers.

But how do Quality Street compare with other chocolate brands? Not too badly actually. Quality Street chocolates contain around 455 calories per 100g, which is more or less the same as Mars bars, but much less than Cadbury’s Dairy Milk (which weighs in at 530 calories). So if you are worried about your waistline and absolutely must dive into a tin of sweets, Quality Street may not be the worst option around – but it’s definitely not a health food. It’s a sweet treat. Are Quality Street Products Environmentally Friendly? We finish with one of the 'original two', Roses, which launched in 1938 - two years after Quality Street first came onto the market. Milk Tray – Manufactured by Cadbury’s, Milk Tray may be most famous for their humorous advertising in the 1980s which associated them light-heartedly with romantic assignations. These days, they are a reliable alternative to Quality Street, featuring a collection of chocolate coated biscuits.Quality Street is part of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, supporting farmers for better chocolate. Nestlé and the Rainforest Alliance work together to help improve the lives of cocoa farmers and the quality of their product. Find out more at ra.org.. A sharing bag of Quality Street® Strawberry Delights - with a deliciously smooth strawberry-flavoured centre coated in rich dark chocolate. Perfect for sharing at Christmas and other celebrations. Now in recyclable paper wrappers. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Quality Street is part of the Nestle Cocoa Plan, working with the Rainforest Alliance to help improve the lives of cocoa farmers and the quality of their product. Quality Street. Use the calculator below to work out the weight and calories for your serving of Nestle Quality Street. If you are team Cadbury, tubs of Heroes contain an average of nine eclairs and Fudges but only five Twirls or Wispas. Meanwhile, the Roses selection is biased towards Dairy Milk, with nine per tub, but only four fudges and truffles. The consumer group’s research answers key questions, such as the ratio of caramel swirls to green triangles in Nestlé’s Quality Street (it is two to one). Also, why are there so many Milky Ways yet I can’t get my hands on a Galaxy Caramel, and this box of Celebrations hasn’t been out of my sight?

Vanilla Fudge – Moving up the complexity scale, Quality Street’s vanilla fudge sweets come in an instantly recognisable pink wrapper and consist of a vanilla fudge core with a chocolate shell. With nearly three months to go until Christmas, Quality Street said it decided to introduce the new flavour to meet consumer demand. The new variety becomes the brand’s 12th flavour after one of the toffee flavours was discontinued last year. This boxed confectionery was originally branded as Miniature Heroes and were introduced in September 1999 as a response to rival Mars' Celebrations (more on them later). The box, of course, contains tiny versions of various Cadbury chocolate bars. The list of discontinued brands is far less extensive than its three competitors with just two losing their place over the years. It’s worth noting that many of these experienced minor alterations while others were dropped altogether. Well, the short answer is there is very rarely an even spread of sweets in the traditional tubs of Quality Street, Roses, Celebrations and Heroes sold in huge quantities at Christmas.
