About this deal

The Exped SynMat 7 Medium is a supremely comfortable, warm and durable sleep mat from the Swiss masters of techy stuff. It is perfectly suitable for winter conditions, is lightweight, compact and this particular model is suited to regular users wanting the ultimate in lightweight comfort. The SynMat 7 Medium is not just for winter, it works equally well all year round for people who feel the cold. Inflation is simple using the two way Flat Valve (watch the video), this valve sits nice and flat against the face fabric so it is far less susceptible to damage. We thoroughly recommend the use of an Exped SchnozzelPumpbag to inflate the mat, not only is it a lot easier than blowing it up yourself but it will notintroduce moisture into the mat that could freeze and dramatically reduce the mats performance. Next-to-skin comfort and anti-slip GripSkin honeycomb-pattern coating. Laminate is air tight and impervious to hydrolysis.

A honey-comb embossed slip resistant 20D polyester is used for the top of the mat and the base is made from standard 20D polyester, both fabrics have a TPU Polyether film laminate to prevent air loss and stop water ingress. We have used our Synmat 7 UL air pad for nine months of camping at the side of the road, in car parks, garages, spare rooms, storage rooms, bed rooms and park benches. We protect ours with a very thin (2mm) foam sleeping pad underneath. We had one slow puncture in Iran, six months into the trip, that was fixed with the puncture repair kit included with every mat. I just had to put some glue on, let it dry, and repeat twice. I’ve had no problems since. Please note that inflatables such as sleeping mats are not considered as faulty if they become punctured during use and are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty in this event. The weldedIbeam chambers are filled with 150 gm2 of Texpedloft microfibre to provide exceptional insulation down to -11 C. The insulation is laminated to the upper and lower sides of the mat to ensure optimum loft and insulation for the life of the mat. The face fabric has a soft next-to-the-skin feel and is also slip resistant. A proprietary Exped lamination is completely airtight and impervious to degradation. Exped are so sure of their manufacturing quality that they give this mat a 5 year warranty on materials and workmanship. Inflation is via flat valve technology and can be done by mouth in about 1.5 minutes, but we recommend either a Schnozzel or Schnozzel PumpBag for hassle free instant inflation without introducing moisture to the filling. In line with current health and safety guidelines, we reserve the right to refuse any items that are (for whatever reason) not returned to us in a clean and hygienic condition. The Exped SynMat HL (Hyperlite) LW (Long & Wide), is the world's lightest sleeping mat for its warmth and comfort levels! Their R-value is 3.1 and thus the lowest of the Exped inflatable range but even these are easily the warmest mats I have regularly used in winter. Comfort Sleeping on an Exped Synmat 7 I consider that there are three broad categories of camping mat: foam, self-inflating and inflatable (see my comprehensive Comparison of Camping Mats article for more on this). Exped are probably the leading company in the manufacture of the latter – inflatable sleeping pads – and best known for their DownMats from which the Synmat differs only in its use of synthetic filling.

You can inflate the mat with your mouth but it’s better to use a separate pump or inflation bag (see below for a full comparison of the options). Sleeping Size of the Exped Synmat UL Inflation is simple using the separate inflation and deflation Flat Valves (watch the video), these valves sit nice and flat against the face fabric so it is far less susceptible to damage. You can use your breathe to blow up the mat but we thoroughly recommend the use of an ExpedSchnozzelPumpbag or the Exped Pillow Pump to inflate the mat, not only is it a lot easier than blowing it up yourself but it will notintroduce moisture into the mat that could freeze and dramatically reduce the mats performance. We first tried the small foam Exped Mini Pump. This is just like a big round sponge that you connect with a small hose and repeatedly squash the air out of to inflate the mat. It’s simple and easy to use but takes a long time to inflate fully. It can be quite frustrating, hunching over the pump for five minutes unable to make it work any faster as you have to wait for the sponge to refill after each compression. The rectangular shape offers a bigger space to lie on in comparison to tapered mats – though many of those will be lighter to carry for that reason. It’s also worth noting that those who tend to move about in their sleep should find the lengthways tubes on this mat will work to their advantage. Mats with a widthways tube construction, like the Therm-a-rest NeoAir, tend to drop at the edges when too much weight shifts there, whereas the SynMat will stay firm.

Offering increased levels of insulation over standard self-inflating mats the Exped Synmat 7LW sleeping mat has the same makeup as the ever popular Downmats, only microfibre fill replaces down in each chamber. Patjan 7 cm paksuus sekä päästä varpaisiin asti ulottuva ilmatyynyrunko luovat pehmustetun ja vakaan nukkumispinnan epätasaisemmallakin alustalla nukuttaessa. Synmat-teknologiaa hyödyntävä mikrokuitueriste suojaa hyvin kylmyydeltä myös viileämpinä öinä.

A honey-comb embossed slip resistant 75D polyester is used for the top of the mat and the base is made from plain weave 75Dpolyester — both fabrics have a TPU Polyether film and hydrolysis resistant laminate film to prevent air loss and stop water ingress. The Exped SynMat Winterlite 7 Long Wide is a brand new mat from the Swiss masters of techy stuff. It does exactly what it says on the box, it is suitable for winter conditions and is very, very light. This particular model is suited to taller users or for those wanting the ultimate in lightweight comfort. The Winterlite mats are not just for winter, they work equally well all year round for cold sleepers. Top: 20 D Polyester, TPU polyether film laminate, hydrolysis resistant, Honeycomb Gripskin coated, Oeko-Tex 100 certified A proper cold-weather sleeping mat is essential if you want to go camping in winter. Those cheap, thin roll mats made of foam just won’t cut it when the ground is really cold beneath your tent – however warm your sleeping bag is, you’ll end up shivering if you don’t have a layer of air between you and the groundsheet. But of course you don’t want to be lugging some bulky lilo around either. Which is why something like the Exped Synmat UL 7 is ideal. When you wake up after a bivvy bag night, in February, with frost on the ground around you the very fact you’re not dead / dying of hypothermia is probably down to one of three things: 1) The quality of your sleeping bag, 2) The quality of your sleeping mat, 3) The quality of your circulation and the sheer heat of your hot, hot, blood. While the integrated pump was nice, we found it more difficult to fine tune the inflation level than other pads. Deflation, however, is as simple as pulling a tab that releases all the air. Unfortunately, there is no way to let the air ease out - this valve is all or nothing. The Sea to Summit Ultralight and Sea to Summit Comfort Light have a similar valve to the SynMat but they both have a small release valve that you can use to fine-tune the inflation while you're on the pad (this is especially key for making adjustments in the middle of the night without waking up your partner). Because of the valve's shortcomings, we ended up over- or under-inflating the pad. Durability

Lightweight Exped models have two separate valves: a green inflation valve and a red deflation valve. This gives you a variety of options for inflation. We’ve more or less used all of the different inflation options so can give an overview of how effective each is… Blowing up with mouth/lungs A honey-comb embossed slip resistant 20D polyester is used for the top of the mat and the base is made from standard 20D polyester, both fabrics have a TPU Polyether film laminate to prevent air loss and stop water ingress. The top fabric has also been coated with Exped's GripSkin coating, which, as you would expect, grips your skin to minimise the amount you slide around in the night. The internal insulation is still there, all 160g/m2 of it, making it suitable for temperatures as low as -11C (R-Value is 4) and it’s just as comfortable as the other models in the SynMat 7 family, in fact you actually get 5mm of extra elevation with this. At 735g this ones lighter than the Exped Synmat 7 LW which weighs 1065g – that’s despite them both featuring the same 75D polyester materials – though it’s heavier than the SynMat UL which weighs 595g.
