About this deal

Marc Spector: Moon Knight concluded with the second Death of Moon Knight. His co-creator Doug Moench was behind Marc Spector’s return from the dead, titled The Resurrection War, published at the beginning of 1998, and not collected at this time. Secret Wars: Marc appears in Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars (2015) #1 and Ultimate End (2015) #4-5. See Guide to Marvel Universe Events – Secret Wars (2015). It's not perfect but it's honestly a blast to read. I liked it so much just bought the 2nd Omnibus right away.

Not collected. Issues #56-57 integrate with Infinity Crusade, as shown below. See Marvel Universe Events: Infinity Crusade. Before the Omnibus edition, you could also find most of this Moon Knight’s period collected in Epic Collection: Costretto in sedia a rotelle non può più essere Moon Knight, il Cavaliere della Luna, il difensore dei viaggiatori notturni. Avengers (2018) #33-38:“The Age of Khnoshu,” a featured Moon Knight arc! You should definitely read this as part of a sequential read of the character. see Guide to Avengers Flagships (2010 – Present Day) Collects Moon Knight (2006) #1-30 & Annual 1, Moon Knight: Silent Knight (2008) #1, Vengeance of the Moon Knight (2009) #1-10, and Shadowland: Moon Knight (2010) #1-3First a crossover of sorts with the same story told from two different perspectives as Moon Knight and the Hulk cross paths without realizing it. Great stuff. Anyway, all this to say that this really wasn’t a particularly good book (in my opinion much of the art is horrible) and I’m glad I didn’t buy the print edition (I got discounts on the ebook, too.) Just like his Nightwing and Batman runs, Dixon let's Marc have fun being a superhero. Whooping ass, taking names, a little sexist with Marlene because...of course. Don't have to research much to see where Dixon is now days and who he writes with. But I'll save the political stuff for another day. The writing is solid enough to carry these stories even if they hold little to no weight. We know what will happen every issue, Moon Knight will survive, no big twist or turns. Collects Werewolf by Night (1972) #32-33; Marvel Spotlight (1971) #28-29; Defenders (1972) #47-50; Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #22-23; Marvel Two-in-One (1974) #52; Moon Knight (1980) #1-20; Marvel Team-Up (1976) Annual 4; material from Defenders (1972) #51; Hulk Magazine (1978) #11-15, 17-18, 20; Marvel Preview (1975) #21; and Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #220. Oh boy, where to start with this dog's breakfast... Complex and nuanced character becomes generic, one dimensional revenge machine. Yawn!

Also in this period: Infinite Possibilities Infinity Comic (2022) #1, Death of Doctor Strange: Spider-Man (2021) #1, Fantastic Four (2018) #40 & 45, She-Hulk (2022) #4, Ghost Rider (2022) #5, Strange (2022) #5, Damage Control (2022) #1, Crypt of Shadows (2022) #1

Where to start reading Moon Knight?

We get a lot of fun adventures and I love Moon Knight as a character but to elevate these stories, Doug needed to come up with better villains. I think Doug wanted to ground Moon Knight in reality and tell more relatable stories so Moon Knight fights mercenaries and common terrorists but in the four colour world of comics - it makes a lot of the stories a bit bland. Then: Infinity Crusade #1, Thor #464, Infinity Crusade #2, Web of Spider-Man #104 & Dr. Strange #55 I love Moon Knight. His limp and languid revival for the despicable Disney Plus show (which I was never going to watch, yet I'm well aware of) typifies Marvel's ongoing inability to properly implement this character into their universe. Moon Knight is Marvel's Batman, not Daredevil. Daredevil may be the bigger name with the better runs, but Marc Spector could and should be Marvel's answer to Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne, haunted by his past and his desire to fix his city and keep everyone from experiencing the same heartache and loss as he has. Marc Spector, trying to atone for his past misdeeds and grappling with the supernatural influence's shadow he now lives in. Sure, Marc Spector will never have Batman's rogue's gallery, but in truth, he doesn't need it. Moon Knight should be the darker, dirtier, more street level Batman, but instead, we get run's like this, which do nothing to elevate the character, but instead, drag him further and further into mediocrity and obscurity. A three-issue mini-series, plus a reprint of Moon Knight Vol. 1 #13. Also available in hardcover and in the Shadowland omnibus. Marc appears throughout this event – see Marvel Universe Event: Shadowland for further information.

Marvel Super Heroes #1: This is included in Essential Vol. 3, above. Due to the nature of this book – using inventory stories that had no other home, the issue actually fits into continuity here – prior to its release in 1990Deadpool, Vol. 4 #27 & 29: See Deadpool. I’m not 100% on this placement, but it makes sense for this to come before the next two big events. From the get go I felt as though I was thrown in the deep end here. Being a new reader to Moon Knight I didn't really know who the characters were and there wasn't any detailed explanations, just occasional nods to their shared past, which was slightly irritating as it made it very clear I was missing a lot of details here.
