About this deal

All you need is gin & juice, and ice. While citrus juices are an easy win, white cranberry and pink lemonade are delicious mixers with gunpowder gin. The Drumshanbo distillery highlights 3 smart variations on the Gin and Tonic, a gimlet variation and a martini. These are spot on and I will make the following additions: Gunpowder Gin and Tonic Absolutely love this gin since trying last week.. beautiful notes of fresh citrus makes it my new favorite mixing spirit.. although I must admit, it does just fine by itself!!.. or with some Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic Those who enjoy citrus forward gins with moderate juniper will most likely enjoy Gunpowder. Tea drinkers will certainly like it and non-tea drinkers will not be turned off. Slowly dried Chinese green tea is blended with eight botanicals and three types of citrus to create a smooth gin with bold and fresh flavors.

The combination of botanicals though somewhat eccentric is well balanced. The green tea is at the fore. Gunpowder Gin does justice to its namesake. However, where this really stands out for me is how it balances the botanicals. Enough juniper for classic gin fans, but also heavy on the citrus and herbs, without overpowering each other. I love this gin in a Negroni. I would never use it for a Martini, because I love the classic very dry Bombay or Tanqueray Martini — pour a little vermouth in the glass, swirl it around, and pour it out before adding the gin. Gunpowder Gin is a modern or contemporary gin. It is not heavily juniper centered and it features the botanical meadowsweet, local to Drumshanbo, Ireland. Distilling Method The flavors are delicate and amazing together. I wish I had tonic or a white tea to mix with it instead of heavy grapefruit juice. Guess that means I’ll be buying a larger bottle next time! (Have a mere mini now.) The nose of the gin is bold with pepper and spice, with lots of juniper giving the aroma a grassy, almost green, character that’s studded with notes of dusky earth. The palate finds the green tea element exploding immediately. Slightly sweet, reminscent of matcha, there are hints of vanilla ice cream and even some saffron amidst the otherwise herbal base. A bold juniper note reprises the nose, melding quite well with the unusual green tea flavors. It’s not a combination I would have expected to work, but it does, and quite pleasantly.

The finish is is delightfully long and peppery with a nice warming throat feel. Who Might Like Drumshanbo Irish Gunpowder Gin? Roku gin has a sweeter, floral aroma with a prominent tannin flavor from two kinds of tea. It has prominent citrus that edges more toward bitterness. Its finish is very peppery and warm. Have relied upon Bombay Sapphire and Tanq for our G&Ts for decades. Decided it was time to widen our experience with this Drumshando Irish gin. Yikes -a mistake to have bought such a large bottle. It may be the golden child of contemporary gins but the first note that sprung out offensively at me, was the floor cleaner PineSol. I don’t care what the ensuing notes bring; just take it away. Iccch.

Tasted Drumshanbo at a wedding in Malaysia. It was a and hot and humid evening and the light yet flavourful gin with tonic and kalamatazi lime was the perfect drink . It’s a story of East meets West along with a few places in between. And in this review, I’ll tell you exactly why the end result is not only harmonious, but Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish has earned a seat at the table of Super Power Gins. An incredible journey into the heart of rural Ireland and the Inner Sanctum of the first distillery in Connacht in 101 years: The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney – the home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, and other remarkable creations from the Curious Mind of PJ Rigney.I’ve never bought a bottle of gin or had gin straight. Today I decided to try this one neat before adding a splash of pink grapefruit juice. It’s so good!!! Gin Boss considers Gunpowder Gin extra special and we recommend it highly. It makes a great gift for a gin lover. From the East – Slowly dried Gunpowder tea from China, caraway seed, star anise, cardamom and lemon from India, kaffir lime from Cambodia and oriental grapefruit from Indonesia.
