With Google services and 5G, the Honor 50 once again becomes serious competition for upper mid-range smartphones. it makes a giant leap on design and display effect, and brings amazing visual sense and comfortable touch. The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 33.6 °C / 92 F, compared to the average of 32.7 °C / 91 F for the devices in the class Smartphone. Along with the main sensor, Honor also includes an ultra-wide lens for added versatility. While it’s good to have, allowing you to capture far more with its 120-degree field view, it’s a significant downgrade in terms of resolution (at just 8 megapixels) – and I also experienced notable shutter lag with this lens. The display of the Honor 50 is a 6.57-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The maximum brightness reaches a good 722 cd/m², but only up to 527 cd/m² can be set without an active illumination sensor. Up to 933 cd/m² brightness is achieved in the APL50 test. The lowest adjustable brightness level is 3.68 cd/m², and the display's illumination reaches 97 percent. I mentioned previously that the design draws attention to the 108-megapixel camera, and having used it, I can hardly begrudge its boastfulness. This sensor is super-strong, performing well in a variety of different lighting conditions and delivering good levels of detail. The 6.57-inch OLED display has a sharp 1080 x 2340p resolution, displaying 1 billion colours for excellent accuracy. Brightness can be increased to retina-scorching levels should you so choose, although I didn’t experience any problems with the automatic mode.

The return of these apps is a night-and-day difference, once again making Honor’s products a viable option rather than a curiosity best avoided. The Honor 50 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G and 8 GB of RAM to ensure smooth system operation, which also allows running more demanding applications without problems. Things have been quiet around Honor for a quite some time, which is why our last Honor review, the Honor 10X Lite, was more than a year ago. The last high-end Honor smartphone in our database was the Honor 20. The manufacturer is now starting anew with the Honor 50, which also uses modern 5G SoCs in addition to Google services after the separation from Huawei. As for the practicalities, the phone measures 160 x 73.8 x 7.8mm and weighs 175g. Regrettably, it offers neither an SD card slot nor a 3.5mm headphone port. Some USB-C earphones are included in the box, but they’re of rather poor quality. Another point on sound is that there are dual speakers along the bottom edge of the phone, but nothing at the other end, leaving you short of a stereo experience when playing audio out loud. More worrying is the fact that the device doesn’t have an official IP rating, meaning that we have no idea how it would cope if caught out in a rain shower or dropped in water. in fast and slow motion refers to the switching between the fast or slow speed and the standard speed. Additionally, we could actively prolong the phone’s battery life by attending to notifications warning us about power-intensive apps.Using the device, the screen is probably the Honor 50’s single greatest feature: it’s big, sharp, smooth, and delivers basically everything you could hope for at this price point. Camera Video recording goes up to 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps – that’s basically the same as on every other Snapdragon 778G phone. You probably don’t need better performance, unless you’re a professional videographer. Jumping into high-end games, we could sometimes tell we weren’t playing on a top-end chipset. Now and then the phone displayed stutters or lags, particularly in busy moments, like when the phone had to simultaneously load multiple moving parts. But now onto the lesser lenses, the 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth-sensing and 2MP macro snappers. The former is useful for taking snaps with a wide field of view, but pictures aren’t quite as colorful or high-res as those produced by the main snapper.
