About this deal

There is also ever-painful topic of faith. I think this novel would be best understood by those who have been raised in faith and trust to God's promises, only to have their heart and trust broken time and again by cruelty of world and not -understandable circumstances. How could God be good, if he allows this? Not once, but again and again? This pain is real. And the faith of those who have even a small bit of trust in their hearts while living this life on Earth is, in reality, immense. To trust in the silent God is hard. I feel you. May God show us His plan and His kindness - best today! Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called "Devil Boy" or Sam "Hell" by his classmates; "God's will" is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered, buoyed by his mother's devout faith, his father's practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends.

Sam endures bullying and outright discrimination due to his physical appearance. His childhood is tough, and he questions his faith. Sam’s mother is his best advocate and champion. The love between all members of this family was palpable and inextinguishable. Dugoni tells the story of that boy, Sam Hill (Hell to his friends and his adversaries) almost as a series of vignettes but with a unifying thread that pulls the whole story together. We learn of Sam’s birth, his childhood in Catholic school, his relationship with his devout mother and the birth of his lifelong relationships with his two best friends. We also learn what it’s like to be a child who is so obviously different from others and how that plays out throughout Sam’s life. The examples that Dugoni provides of those who scorn Sam and those who embrace him are heartbreaking and heartwarming in turn. Watching Sam face the world with the help of those who adore him gives the book an incredibly hopeful feeling that points to the importance of resilience and the support of others. I’m lowering mine just briefly enough to write out my thoughts on "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell." While my sins were being too skinny, too pale, too meek and too much or too little of whatever my tormenters deemed acceptable at any given moment, Sam Hill had only one: he had ocular albinism. Sam struggles with relationships and acceptance but has a big heart and an open mind. His experiences allow him to grow to be a man with confidence, skills and admirable values. We see how his belief system is created and influenced in childhood by his parents, friends, teachers and bullies and challenged by the same in his adult life. Sam is understanding and compassionate, and he believes in forgiveness. His love for his family and friends is unwavering and author Robert Dugoni shows us that our differences provide even more opportunities to lead extraordinary lives. When a woman discovers a rare book that has connections to her past, long-held secrets about her missing sister and their childhood spent in the English countryside during World War II are revealed.

This book transported this reader into a world where one can find that which seems to be escaping from our world today, that of human kindness, forgiveness, and love. I can not recommend this book more highly as it brings one a world of peacefulness, tears, love, and the telling of a story that moves one's heart and soul. A sweeping, heart-stopping epic of a young woman's journey to becoming, set against the harsh beauty of mid-century Colorado Quite a departure from Dugoni’s dark novels about Detective Tracy Crosswhite ( The Trapped Girl, 2017, etc.): the frankly inspirational tale of a boy who overcomes the tremendous obstacles occasioned by the color of his eyes. Hill now becomes the only man in EWS history to take home three series titles. With both Downhill and Enduro titles, Monster Energy’s golden child now has 8 World Championship titles to his name and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. How many EWS has Nukeproof won?Robert Dugoni: My books are always self-contained. That means the story is complete, so people don't have to buy the earlier books to know what is going on. That said, it always helps to read the prior novels in a series to get an understanding of why the character is, emotionally, where he is in that novel. Brief Summary: Sam Hill was born with ocular albinism; which gave him “red eyes.” This brings much adversity into his life from bullying to low self-esteem. Yet his mother continually says his life is going according to God’s Will. This is a coming of age story; as we follow his reflections on his childhood to adulthood; joining him in grief, obstacles, and triumphs. This is my first book by this author. Three-time Enduro World Series champion Sam Hill appears to be hinting at some changes with his long-time sponsor Team Chain Reaction Cycles / Nukeproof. Sam has been with CRC Nukeproof since the 2013 season, winning three overall EWS championships and standing on 15 individual EWS podiums in his time there. How can I live extraordinary life? David Bateman bullied Sam when he was young at OLM school and later he reappears in Sam’s life when Sam is an ophthalmologist. How well do you think Sam handled his nemesis? What would have you done in Sam’s place? Q: You’ve had a career as a lawyer before becoming a full-time novelist - has that influenced or helped your writing in a big way? At what point did you decide to give up practicing law and turn to writing full-time?

Robert Dugoni has a rare and brilliant talent for infusing his characters with complex emotions. It is very hard not to ache for young Sam.... Frankly, this might be the best book of the year." The story also gives us Sam as an adult forced to confront the same bully and the choices he makes color the next ten years of his life. This story encompasses a number of themes. These include bullying, deep friendship, wonderful parenting, the Catholic religion and its effect on its followers and previous followers, the institution of marriage, coming of age, grief, redemption, and forgiveness. There are a million chapters, each vignette focused on events and interactions that are important in Sam’s life. Since 2013, Dugoni has sold more than six million books. Two of his books, My Sister’s Grave and The Eighth Sister have been optioned for television series development.

Dugoni wrote his way to Stanford University, receiving writing awards along the way, and majored in communications/journalism and creative writing while working as a reporter for the Stanford Daily. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and worked briefly as a reporter in the Metro Office and the San Gabriel Valley Office of the Los Angeles Times. Coulee: a term applied rather loosely to different landforms, all of which refer to a kind of valley. I am a small business marketing consultant and I love sharing titles of great books I read on my blog, https://booknationbyjen.com. Q: I had a question about the latest book, The Last Agent. Can someone get into it without reading The Eighth Sister first? ABOUT 'THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF SAM HELL': Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered, buoyed by his mother’s devout faith, his father’s practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends. There were medical errors that made me cringe. Occular Albinism is not merely a case of having red eyes. There would have been multiple other complications affecting Sam's sight and life. Also, Sam leaves the surgery for a child's detached retina for a few weeks. This is an injury that is treated by immediate surgery. Delaying surgery is both dangerous and negligent. Story was told in past and present. Dugoni kept the chapters short and a very tight writing. Perhaps because he also write thrillers that he turned every chapter in a short suspense story keeping me on the edge. It was to put it down as I kept telling myself one more chapter and at the end of that chapter something would happen that I had to read the next chapter.
