Brush the Collodion over the wound with the built-in applicator. Unscrew the cap of your Rigid Collodion and pull it out to access the application brush attached underneath the cap. [12] X Research source Dip the brush into the Collodion if it isn’t already loaded up. Then, slowly brush the Collodion over the scar that you drew or painted. Start anywhere on the wound and cover each brushstroke 2-3 times before moving on to the next part of the wound. [13] X Research source You will feel the skin tightening and drying out as soon as you apply the Rigid Collodion. [14] X Research source Astronomy Application: Collodion is used in the cleaning of optics such as telescope mirrors. The collodion is applied to the surface of the optic, usually in two or more layers. Sometimes a piece of thin cloth is applied between the layers, to hold the collodion together for easy removal. After the collodion dries and forms a solid sheet covering the optic, it is carefully peeled away taking contamination with it. To create a fresher looking scar, outline where you want the scar to be with the Bloody Rose hue from the ProColorRing™ Bruise Wheel as the base before applying the Rigid Collodion. Then repeat the steps until you achieve the look you desire. Collodion emulsion plates were developed in an alkaline developer, not unlike those in common use today. An example formula follows.

Mix a small amount of the Dark Red from the ProColorRing™ Bruise Wheel with a shade from the Mask Cover Makeup Palette that best matches your skin tone to create a muted red color. There are a number of factors that can cause great damage to your tintype while shooting; wet plate collodion is sensitive to: Use a light powder foundation to soften the shine of the Collodion. Grab a powder foundation that’s slightly lighter than your natural skin tone. Load up a clean makeup brush or cotton pad with your foundation and dab it over the area where you applied the Rigid Collodion. This will take some of the shine out of the Collodion and make the wound appear more real. [18] X Research source The collodion process is an early photographic process. The collodion process, mostly synonymous with the "collodion wet plate process", requires the photographic material to be coated, sensitized, exposed, and developed within the span of about fifteen minutes, necessitating a portable darkroom for use in the field. Collodion is normally used in its wet form, but it can also be used in its dry form, at the cost of greatly increased exposure time. The increased exposure time made the dry form unsuitable for the usual portraiture work of most professional photographers of the 19th century. The use of the dry form was mostly confined to landscape photography and other special applications where minutes-long exposure times were tolerable. [1] History [ edit ] This deteriorated dry plate portrait of Theodore Roosevelt is similar to a wet plate image but has substantial differences.

In my experience this type of workshop gets you working with wet plate collodion and gives you a broad working knowledge of the process, without spending a lot of money up front on the chemistry and expensive equipment that you would need to acquire to work in this medium. The collodion process produced a negative image on a transparent support (glass). This was an improvement over the calotype process, discovered by Henry Fox Talbot, which relied on paper negatives, and the daguerreotype, which produced a one-of-a-kind positive image and could not be replicated. The collodion process thus combined desirable qualities of the calotype process (enabling the photographer to make a theoretically unlimited number of prints from a single negative) and the daguerreotype (creating a sharpness and clarity that could not be achieved with paper negatives). Collodion printing was typically done on albumen paper. Facial features are mildly distorted by the tight membrane. There is usually some degree of ectropion and eclabium

Using a brush, apply Mehron’s Mask Cover Makeup to help blend the color of the Synwax to match your skin tone. Skip paint or makeup and use the Collodion alone for wrinkles and old scars. Rigid Collodion on its own will make your skin appear darker. It will also give your skin a rough, dried-out texture. Don’t apply any makeup or paint before applying the Rigid Collodion if you want to add wrinkles or really old scars that won’t stand out a ton.
