About this deal

After some years devoted to producing children´s works, the author in parallel dedicates part of her time to the creation of her most ambitious work: Rosalie Blum. In 2007, the first volume of the trilogy is published in France. And it is finished by the launching of the third volume of the series two years later.

Juliette • Montreal Review of Books

Juliette visits her family in rural France and learns to take comfort in the countryside all the while trying to remain positive for her family. She stays with her father, who is divorced, and visits her sister, who is having an affair, frequently. Walking around one day, she finds her childhood home, and it's under the new ownership of the town drunk. He invites her in and a friendship is formed. Our team of independent journalists takes pride in doing in-depth reporting and taking time to get it right. We're able to focus our attention on publishing impactful journalism in the public interest, and publish it for free for all to read, because we have the support of Tyee Builders. Oh ! Oh !

Sections

Camille Jourdy is a writer and illustrator from France. Her other works include graphic novels Rosalie Blum and Les Vermeilles. She works with Moulin Roty, a toy company. This slice of life graphic novel is so poignant, what with the plot, the language, the watercolors. It feels truly pastoral, rife with small-town drama and family plots. There family secrets, an aging grandmother, and tense moments between townies and families. Wordless and experimental, Joe Kessler’s “ The Gull Yettin” traces the disquieting connection between a young boy and the shape-shifting, birdlike creature that is obsessed with him. We follow the boy from the death of his family, through a perilous voyage across the water and into, for a time, the care of a woman who takes him in as if he were her own.

If you'd like to join thousands of readers who help make independent journalism possible, consider joining Tyee Builders. Thank you. The characters and the dialogue were incredibly realistic. Some of the disputes actually made me uncomfortable because of how real they seemed. As usual with Camille Jourdy I loved the colors.Talking is reserved for when we’re really drunk or high, or about to be murdered or something,” says Sammie of male friendships early in Mattie Lubchansky’s “ Boys Weekend.” It’s a statement that will be cast into relief over the course of the story, which finds the transfeminine Sammie (who, like Lubchansky, uses they/them pronouns) reluctantly joining a bachelor party gone spectacularly bad. By the end of their time on the artificial island El Campo, a sort of near-future Las Vegas where anything goes, Sammie and their former friends have gotten drunk and high, and been about to be murdered together, but talk still comes with only the greatest difficulty — when it comes at all. A regular of the local dive bar, Polux mostly whiles away the hours drifting into the lassitude of drink, spending his days with the occasional hook up and silly bets, seemingly dissolving into a state of permanent ennui. A vibrant tableau of small-town life as seen through the eyes of a woman returning home from Paris.
