Unplug the power cable, turn the Dash Cam on and time how long the Dash Cam stays on for. The time it takes for the battery to drain will help us identify the root cause

It’s also good to have the choice of rear cameras, but a shame that – in the UK at least – they don’t connect on the left-hand side. They follow the same pattern as the series 1 range, with 6 devices covering every segment of the market from the budget 122 up to the highest spec 622GW. The second is a unit which plugs into the right side of the dash cam and uses a zoom lens to record the view out of the rear (Rear View). Finally there’s the Cabin View camera which is very similar but has a wide-angle lens and so records everything inside the car, but you can’t really see what’s happening out the rear window. b) Stop it recording by pressing the red circle in the bottom left hand corner of the dash cam's screen. We have two types of mounts available; a suction cup or an adhesive mount. The adhesive mount is considerably more durable and less prone to breakage.

If you forget your phone, the dash cam will alert you and display a red screen to remind you that the feature can’t operate. Alexa, save that recording. For added convenience, the 412GW has an automatic recording function that starts and stops recording as you drive. This eliminates the need for manual operation and ensures that you capture all important moments on the road. It also has a loop recording feature, which overwrites the oldest footage when the memory card is full, ensuring continuous recording without interruption. Regarding the recording lengths, the camera will record continuously in small segments (1,2, or 3 minutes). It will record these segments consecutively until the SD card is full. Then the oldest piece of footage will be deleted and the newest will be saved in it's place. This will continue looping and is called Continuous Overwriting. The Dash Cam does this automatically to allow for more footage to be recorded and the old, unnecessary footage to be deleted without manual intervention. However Protected footage is not overwritten in the same way. These can fill the card and reduce the quantity of normal footage saved on your SD card. On the dash cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Mass Storage' on the Dash Cam screen and then OK so that only that displays on the screen. The 422GW has a camera resolution of 1440p, more commonly known as 2k. Whilst the camera does also offer 60fps, you will need to keep the resolution at 1080p to utilise this.

On the Dash Cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Mass Storage' on the Dash Cam screen and then OK so that only that displays on the screen. One of our favourite things about the series 2 dashcam range is that it’s really easy to understand. For every model you go up, from 122 through to 622, you’ll get more features or better specs. Nextbase have gone all out to make sure this device is worth upgrading, another feature is the extreme weather mode which uses sophisticated algorithms to improve visibility in fog or other bad weather.

Ask Alexa

Remove the SD card and press the reset button on the underside of the Dash Cam. Then turn the Dash Cam on. Please turn Parking Mode off and turn Screen Saver off as these could interfere with the test results. The Nextbase 222 is the next in the range. As far as features go, it is relatively similar with no WiFi or Bluetooth so you cannot connect it to your phone. It does, however, have upgraded specs as far as the hardware goes. You can also get Alexa to start and stop recording, though these commands aren’t particularly useful given you probably want your dash cam to record continuously. There’s another new feature called AutoSync which transmits the low-res videos to your phone and uploads them to the new Nextbase Cloud where they are kept for 30 days. There’s no charge for this, and Nextbase says there will never be. Unfortunately, there’s very little help in the app an no explanation of how to enable AutoSync or how to access these videos in the cloud. We don’t recommend Samsung cards, we see lots of problems further down the line. The read/write speed is more than capable @macgd016
