Supplied in children sizes but children do not always tolerate them (7). The flow meter will be set between 8 and 15 liters. The flow meter should never set below 8 liters. The liter flow is based on your observation of the reservoir bag. The bag must be kept half inflated. You will need to increase the liter flow if the bag is not inflated enough. If SpO 2>85%, titrate oxygen flow via nasal cannula (2-6 L/minute O 2) or simple face mask (5-10 L/minute O 2) to achieve 94-98% saturation. If unable to achieve or maintain target range, switch to reservoir mask (15 L/minute O 2) and seek senior advice. Since oxygen is a drug, it must be prescribed on a drug chart (paper or electronic). Most drug charts have a section for oxygen prescribing. FiO2 stands for fraction of inspired oxygen (O2). Wearing supplemental oxygen increases FiO2 from 21 percent to anywhere between 24 and 100 percent oxygen, depending on your oxygen source. Medical facilities have the capability of increasing your FiO2 to virtually 100 percent, while home units, like oxygen concentrators, deliver from 24 to 60 percent FIO2.
