As with Eufy’s other cameras, the SoloCam S40 is super simple to set up. There’s only one thing to take into consideration: the solar panel needs two hours of sunlight per day to stay charged, so you have to install it in a spot that’s possible throughout the year. Forever Power, Solar Style: Just 2 hours of direct sunlight each day is enough to continuously power SoloCam S230, so you never have to worry about changing the battery. And when the sun sets, the built-in battery keeps the juice flowing. I get very few notifications, however if I open the app and do (basically) anything within it I start getting tons of notifications. Almost seems like the app has to be open to get regular notifications. I DO get notifications when the app isn't open, but when it IS open I get TONS of notifications. When I go out to the driveway and get into my car, Arlo says it detected a person, then a vehicle. S40 has ABSOLUTELY NO NOTIFICATIONS (or recording). Arlo shows me getting in my car and leaving, S40 seems completely un-interested. This has been the case for EVERY time I've left my home! I had family visit last week - they arrived in the driveway, got out, walked around, etc. and the S40 NEVER recorded a SECOND of video.

What caught, and then proceeded to keep my attention was the solar-powered design. On the plus side, the video is great and night vision is also great. Connecting to the camera for live view or recorded view is usually a second or two but occasionally fails or takes longer. I don't think this camera has EVERY "spotted a person" when myself or my girlfriend were in the driveway. My Arlo went off a couple times when I took my trash cans in, but the S40 never peeped. I really wanted to like this camera, as it stored locally and made me believe that even if there was spotty connectivity to my WiFi any event would still be locally recorded and I could get to it.
