I really had no idea who I should trust. Gloria? Her brother Edward? Oliver? They all seemed to have their own agenda but who was trying to cover up this secret and what would they do to stop Belle finding out the truth? I was suspicious of Belle’s room-mate Rebecca and even Diana’s best friend Simone … This kept me ready to spot any inconsistencies and I wavered between them all. Except for Harry! It was obvious he was up to something but I didn’t think for one moment it would have the conclusion it did. To the rest of the world Belle Hatton is an aspiring singer who's found herself in the beautiful country of Burma. The full truth is that Bella is seeking to fill the absence in her life: to find the sister she only recently discovered she had. It seems there are some who are none too pleased by her motivations and are keen to hinder her. The mystery element of the novel was slightly predictable. The setting was beautiful. The storyline about Belle’s mother Diana and how she fell under suspicion, was an interesting angle. Trust is a very important word throughout this book because there seems to be a shroud of secrecy surrounding the events which changed the life of a family forever. I admired that at all times Belle followed her gut. Gloria the woman Belle meets on the boat on the way over and who seems to slot herself into Belle's life at every opportunity came across to me as if she was trying to be the mother figure but then on the other hand I was wary of her as I was of most people who featured. Gloria's brother Edward who worked in the British administration seemed to be so helpful and wanted Belle to find the answers but then again I was second guessing everyone's actions.

Actiunea se petrece in Birmania, interbelica, unde Belle Hatton, o cântăreața talentata isi cauta sora disparuta in conditii misterioase cu mai bine de 10 ani in urma. Her 1988 marriage to the actor Owen Whittaker, whom she met while shooting a commercial, ended in divorce. In 2000, she married Stephen Riley, who had led a management buyout of the company that became Denby Pottery, and she took a 10-year break from writing to bring up their children.Lily sat on her bed, looked around, and let her tears fall shamelessly. She cried for her mother, for her father, for her sister that refused to talk to her, for all her friends that have already died, and for the friends that would die, she cried for her and she cried for James. When Severus appeared at the door, she cried for him as well. Inside the house, everything was the same as the day she came to collect her father’s things, a few months ago. Lily let go of Severus’ hand and climbed the stairs to her room. He stayed behind, leaving her to have a few moments on her own. Overall I feel this book may be best suited as a simple holiday read. This is the first I've read from this author, though this is one of my preferred genres so perhaps I might read her in future. But this book is not one that I would recommend.

Edit: 21st February 2020. I was unwell at the time of writing this unfavourable review. My opinions have changed quite a bit so please ignore most of what I said. I actually would recommend this book to someone and, I already have someone in mind to receive my copy. It has far more redeeming qualities than not. When I am feeling MUCH better, I will be sure to let you know! God-willing :) Thank you. You did?” She asked, voice small as the first time he told her what she was. He nodded and with a devilish grin, she hopped off the trunk and offered her hand for Severus to take. The Missing Sister, the final book in the series, published in May this year, follows the sextet on a search for another daughter adopted by the wealthy Pa Salt, whose death and burial at sea sparked their quest to solve the mystery of why he adopted girls from all corners of the globe. Right from the outset I thought Belle was brave and courageous. Firstly to travel to the other side of the world on her own but it also showed how tenacious and how strong willed and purposeful she was. She had burning questions and had a strong desire for answers. At first she seemed like a fish out of water and that at every point she was met with opposition and a blank wall. For Belle is resolved to find out what did happen to her long lost sister all those years ago. Elvira was just three weeks old when she was taken from her parents garden in Rangoon. Suspicion fell upon her mother Diana with her father Douglas torn in two as to what happened. Since both upped and left Rangoon after the devastating event leaving Douglas' important job behind the enigma has remained just that. The Seven Sisters (2014), a story taking Maia D’Aplièse from Lake Geneva to Rio de Janeiro, was followed by The Storm Sister (2015), embracing historical Norwegian figures such as Edvard Grieg and Henrik Ibsen. Then – with settings ranging from the Beatrix Potter-era Lake District, London Edwardian society and the Scottish Highlands, to Thailand, Australia, Spain, South America, New York and Kenya – came The Shadow Sister (2016), The Pearl Sister (2017), The Moon Sister (2018) and The Sun Sister (2019). This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be my last. This tale takes place in Burma during the 1930s. When Belle Hatton’s father passes away, she finds an old newspaper clipping which will change her life forever. Belle now wants to find out the truth, but will she find the answers she is looking for? Lily looked ahead of her, to where her old house was, just after the hill. She almost couldn’t remember what it looked like inside. She hasn't returned home since graduation. With the war and everything happening, she knew it wasn't safe for her father. In the end, it didn't matter anyway. This is a fairly loosely woven story with some scenes that are a little hard to credit but which nevertheless takes you into the heart of what I imagine Burma could well have been like. The author is always terrific at creating a colourful, exotic and vibrant setting for her stories. She describes her personal visit to the country at the end of the book and what she saw – now recorded here in the written word – really brings the book to life.

Lily didn’t think that the hardest thing she had to do was say goodbye to him. She knew he understood because he sat close to her on the bed and held her in a hug. Lily cried even harder, shaking under his arms while Severus soothed her.

Dovetailing with Belle’s story is the story of her mother Diana in 1920s Cheltenham and then Minster Lovell. She has been blamed all these years for the disappearance of her daughter, a heavy burden to carry around and consequently her mental health has suffered dreadfully. Her long standing friend Simone takes her under her wing and after some Freudian therapy, her vitality and mental health are restored. The connection between Diana and Belle has long been severed. Is there a chance that they will find each other again?

The Missing Sister is another excellent historical fiction novel by this extremely talented author. I have loved everything Dinah Jefferies has written, and this one didn’t disappoint. Strong characters, mystery, intrigue and danger all blended with fascinating details of Burma and surrounds. Always well written, I have no hesitation in highly recommending The Missing Sister to fans of historical fiction. How can you know he will be there? You two haven’t talked in ages! He’s a Death Eater now, it’s dangerous! He can hurt you!”The story is quite convincing in most parts, and made me reflect on the subtle emotional violence of which many women are susceptible, even today: feeling guilty when anything goes wrong is a heavy burden to carry, ingrained from birth. Kiekvienas žmogus pats atsakingas už savo išgelbėjimą, kad ir kaip būtų pabrėžiama bendruomenės svarba. This was my fourth Dinah Jeffries book. I think I can write one now. (Just kidding, I cannot, and I respect and appreciate the hard, hard work and tons of effort it takes to write). What I’m trying to say is, it’s pretty formulaic. Quite like Dan Brown, but less annoying. See, there’s a beautiful young woman instead of Langdon, an Asian city instead of a European one, a good-looking, helpful man for a companion instead of a good-looking helpful woman for a companion, they stroll about the city taking in its culture and landmarks, instead of running about.. you get the gist. From the vineyards of New Zealand to the majestic landscape of Ireland, The Missing Sister is the penultimate instalment in the multimillion-selling epic Seven Sisters from Lucinda Riley. A breathtaking story of love and loss, inspired by the mythology of the famous star constellation. From the Sunday Times number one bestselling author Lucinda Riley, The Missing Sister is the seventh instalment in the multimillion-copy epic series The Seven Sisters.
