About this deal

Seeing as its predecessors, the Brother CS6000i and CS7000i, had a max stitching speed of 850 spm, this is an interesting move on Brother’s part to limit the max speed on their newest machine. I’ve read sooo many reviews about tension problems with 6000i so I’m nervous about this series in that aspect.

Pull the thread down and pass it through the guides and tension discs in the U-shaped channel on the front of the machine. One thing that was interesting to see on the Brother CP60X was several parts were plastic compared to the CS7000X machine I bought in late 2020. However, on a closer look, you can spot quite some differences both in functionality and design between the two machines.Overall, this machine is solid, dependable, easy to set up and use, and very affordable, making it a great choice for a beginner. That said, we do not view this as a dealbreaker since it can be worked on and adjusted with some time and patience as you learn your machine. By reading the manual, you can also learn how to program the machine to stop with the needle up or down and change the needle position to left, right, or center. The Brother CS7000X, as we mentioned, has 70 built-in stitches and 10 presser feet that are very easy to change up, this makes pretty much any at-home sewing project possible. The Brother CS7000X has the “newer” needle threader, which I do think is a bit easier to use and will likely last longer than the “older” style needle threader still on the XR9550.

On the other hand, while the Brother CP100X’s 100 built-in stitches are still impressive, the limited range of stitches may be limiting for those who want to take on more complex projects. While this isn’t the most feature-rich sewing machine, I think it is one of the best Brother beginner sewing machines.I like the needle threader much more on the CS7000X and think it will last longer than the one on my CS6000i did. Automatic thread tension is a nice feature, although on my SE1900 (combo embroidery/sewing machine with auto tension), I still have to manually adjust the tension maybe 10-20% of the time to achieve the best results for my projects.

This sound on the CP60X is significantly quieter and less scary than on many of my machines, especially my embroidery machine! When Brother announced one of the main differences between the Brother CS7000i (the model after the CS6000i) and the CS7000X was going to be an improved needle threader, I was excited to try it out. If you need extra help to jump the seam, use a clearance plate or the locking pin on the presser foot to help you get the bulk under the machine. It’s really important because even when your material isn’t denim-style jeans–it can still have several layers with quilting fabrics (like cotton) which need just about an equally light touch from sewing machines! As for large spools and cones that don’t fit on the machine, you can feed them from a thread stand (ex: Dritz 896 Cone Thread Holder).

If you want to increase ease of use, consider purchasing a beginner sewing machine that boasts additional automatic features to decrease the time and effort spent in setup and sewing. These include the standard presser foot, the zigzag presser foot that is used for most day-to-day sewing projects, the overcasting presser for creating seams, the buttonhole foot for creating buttonholes, the zipper foot for creating zippers, a blind stitch foot for sewing blind hems, the monogramming foot for decorative work, the walking and quilting foot for quilting projects and the ¼’’presser foot for creating the ¼’’ seams. Turn on the sewing machine and either press the start button (if your machine is computerized) or press the foot pedal down while holding the end of the thread. If you like the sound of the functionality and ease of use of this model but wish it had a larger screen and more interesting stitch options, check out the Brother HC1850.

Scoring very high in our stitch set-up test, the Brother CS5055 will make life simple for someone new to the craft. While both machines have their strengths and weaknesses, understanding these factors can help you determine which machine is best suited for your needs and preferences. The Brother CP100X comes with six presser feet, including a zigzag foot, buttonhole foot, zipper foot, blind stitch foot, overcasting foot, and monogramming foot. Both Brother CS7000X and Brother CP100X sewing and quilting machines come with a fixed needle bar, which helps to hold your sewing needle in place without having to shift from side to side.
