About this deal

It’s a neat and practical design that harks back to the heyday of the home computer revolution: I like to think of this model as the ZX Spectrum or BBC of Raspberry Pi models.

Having to use Fn prohibits, for instance, to select text in pages (shift+pgup/pgdn) or to begin/end of line (shift+home/end). But there's no issue with holding down fn+shift+pg up/down or fn+ctrl+shift+end on laptops with pg up/down or home/end integrated with arrow keys via fn.It was nice to have when the shell was dumped full of text that just scrolled away with no buffer, but computers have been to fast for a long time for it to have any meaning at all.

Low-cost and portable, it is ideal for home study, and for teaching computing concepts like programming, physical computing, and networking. Performance is still not perfect; we experienced a few freezes, hangs and moments of frustrating lag. For those looking for a simpler Pi or wanting a quick way to get started, this is a great addition to the line-up. While Intel’s current ultra-low-power Whiskey Lake Celerons, such as the N4205U, pack a bit more of a punch, with around three times the performance of our N2806, we’re still looking at comparable performance to the Pi 400. With a keyboard integrated into its chassis, the new Raspberry Pi 400 looks almost like an 80s micro.Note, I'm new at this, not an experienced Linux or PI user and a paid up member of the silver surfer club. That's interesting - I have a Pi using a 104 key mechanical keyboard as well as Mac that uses the Fn key and I have no problems selecting page up/down as well as begin/end of line. Even when tested with an external cooling fan and firmware updates to reduce throttling, the Pi 4 only managed an overall score of 13. If you need a micro-HDMI adapter to use your existing HDMI cable with the Raspberry Pi 400 then we've got you covered!

I think Denmark, Sweden, and Finland should switch to the Norwegian keyboard layout because it’s the best of the Nordic layouts. It offers the perfect platform for learning/teaching; coding, Linux, IoT systems, streaming media, playing games, automated domestic and industrial applications, or your complete desktop solution and much much more. The familiar 40-pin GPIO pins are located at the rear of the keyboard for wiring up electronics projects, alongside two USB 3. It’s ideal for learning to code using the Raspberry Pi OS desktop environment and can also be used for a wide range of other activities such as surfing the web, creating and editing documents, watching videos and more! FreeBSD console uses scroll lock to turn on a mode where page up and page down scroll the display up and down a page at a time. If you’re after front ends for emulation or entertainment systems RetroPie, Lakka and RecalBox all fit the bill, and OSMC and LibreELEC are designed to serve as Kodi media centres.

The original Pi 4 had a tendency to run rather toasty, making aftermarket cooling something of a necessity for maximum performance, but we never experienced any thermal throttling whatsoever, even under the sizeable strain of our in-house benchmark tests. As mentioned the project is relatively complex but only uses components and code that beginners would learn as separate elements.Looks like there may be some room if you trim away the heatsink in the quarter where the keyboard ribbon plugs in, but perhaps the better bet is on the outside of the case under the flat keyboard area (where it rises above the desk). If you're planning on using HATs or mini HATs with your Pi 400 you'll probably want to pick up either a Flat HAT Hacker or a GPIO extension cable , take a look at the extras tab for more options. I wouldn't expect the Pi's WiFi to get nearly the same performance as a laptop or desktop with a special antenna configuration and usually a better wireless chipset. There's even an on/off power option via the F10 key (for full power disconnection, grab a USB-C on/off switch cable ).
