About this deal

The headphones are protected from dust (the first ‘5’ in IP55) and from water jets coming from nozzles up to 6.

We did manage to brave a storm with them and get them sweaty for some indoor bike and rowing sessions and we are happy to report they’ve survived to live another day. Designed with the hardest working athletes in mind, Air becomes a part of you as you train to achieve your toughest goals while staying connected to the world around you.We are a credit broker, not a lender – credit is subject to status and affordability, and is provided by a panel of lenders of whom we have a commercial relationship. Controlling the AfterShokz Titanium is also a cinch, with one of the component boxes on the headband hosting volume buttons, one of which doubles as a long-press on/off switch. Put the OpenRun up alongside the Trekz Air launched a few years earlier, and you can appreciate how much slimmer things have really gotten here.

However, both of these issues are natural limitations of the tech and design, so it's hard to castigate too hard for their lack of ability. With nothing in your ears, these near-ear bone conduction speakers offer a genuinely new way of listening to music. The redesigned ear hooks seem to suffer from uneven weight distribution, which leads to pressure on the left side. Whilst I attempt to keep the wires in place by wendling them through the straps on my helmet, the dangling earpiece has a habit of gradually slipping down and pulling the wire tight around my neck.On the bike, I guess the scenario where I’m least likely to wear the Aftershokz is when it is really noisy. In the case of too much wind noise, there’d be a reasonable argument for not going out on a ride at all. It’s not that they lack low frequency sound as such, but more that it’s felt more than heard – it reverberates through your jawbones.

There is no real weight to the headphones as the loops rest above your ears and the vibratey bits gently grip your skull. They also do seem to leak a lot less at more moderate volumes, though it’ll still be the case when you crank things up to the max. Right now, Shokz owns this space because there’s nothing really out there to give it some competition. Whilst they don’t blend into the background like the ubiquitous Apple earphones (wired or unwired), they certainly don’t protrude noticeably like my other Bluetooth headphones. It’s rather obvious that they’re at their best in quiet environments, and actually rather exciting to use around an office where it’s possible to listen to music while keeping one ear on colleagues’ chatter.

I haven't handled it since my last use (it stayed on my desk), and it's the 2nd device that does this to me :(((. You hit the larger button on the side of the left ‘bone phone’ (I’ve just discovered this is the ‘multifunction button’) to start the music on your phone (or in my case the podcast). While it is off, press and hold the power button for more than 5 seconds until the power light is flashing and then press the function button 2 times and the language will change (they are about 5 of which are not Spanish). Most exercise-centric headphones that claim to block-out noise create an odd effect that is never on their features list; they feed into your ears the vibrations from your feet as they hit the ground. As we said, bone conduction technology remains at the heart of how Shokz delivers audio, in a way that doesn’t entirely distract you from the world around you. You still get a little of that vibration sensation at higher volumes though it’s been dialled down a little and it doesn’t ever feel uncomfortable or to a level that you’d want to stop using them.
