On the back of the massive success of Disney Villainous, Marvel Villainous has entered the scene with a large amount of hype. After a long slog to a loss, we looked through the deck and found three of them in the bottom 10 cards.

I found it added an extra element of tension when making the decision to play a fate card, and in fact in We Are Venom you must keep playing fate cards because you need to find Spider Man from within but ideally you want your opponent to find it and have to place it in your domain. This card can be swapped out for any other hero within the common fate deck so you could play him even when not playing with the Venom character. These character deck boxes can hold the Villain cards, and fate cards for each character (But NOT their larger cardboard cards or any tokens).Rather than just winning the moment he places the second bomb on someone’s territory, it would be great if he had to “detonate” them on his next turn, thus giving players one last chance to remove bombs and stop him. Although it still feels lighter than Disney movers it is weightier than other Marvel movers and it just looks overall like more attention to detail has been included. Maybe I need to play this character more, but I find the gather ingredients/brew poison mechanic, used both to win the game and to defeat heroes, a little too cumbersome. While they’re not all interplayable, all of the Villainous character decks and Objectives share the same mechanics and similar enough rules that I’ve ranked all 20 from my favorite to play to my least favorite. Ravensburger hit upon a winning formula with its Disney Villainous board game – letting you play the baddie and compete in asymmetrical plot-offs.
