Until around 2021, the Seiko SNXS79 belonged to the Seiko 5 collection. Thanks to its sporty, elegant design and surprisingly low price, the watch is considered to be one of the top alternatives to classic Rolex models such as the Datejust or Oyster Perpetual. Even if the resemblance is striking, Seiko has nevertheless managed to give the SNXS79 its own unique character. But if the SNXS79 is your only watch, you might as well get the exact size strap to fit it, which is 19mm. As my appreciation for watches (and my watch collection) grew, I began to appreciate the little aspects and nuances of a watch, more.

It has a domed crystal and a case that’s scratched up, and has so much character, in my opinion. What is a Seiko 5? Along with the Seagull 1963, it’s the most versatile watch I own. It doesn’t look out of place with any outfit. In my experience Swiss watches are like German cars expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and no where near as reliable as Japanese cars, especially Toyotas and Suzukis. I do appreciate craftsmanship and inginuity of many Swiss pieces, but like you said, as far as reliability and affordability, Seiko is hard to beat.Hope you enjoyed this SNXS79 review! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below. I respond to every comment! – Anthony If there’s one problem I could point at here, it’s the action of the day-date display. It’s slow. Very slow. The date mechanism engages at 9 PM, starts switching some time past 11, and completes the switch by just after midnight. The weekday wheel, however, takes longer. It engages before midnight and ends the switch sometime before 4 AM. At the time, after wearing a dive watch for a couple of months, I thought the Seiko 5 looked too small and effeminate on me. It is a ‘smaller’ case size (37mm in diameter) and is maybe even smaller than average by modern day standards. Though I’ll must admit, I sometimes still wear the flimsy original bracelet on warmer days. It’s not the best quality, but light and comfortable enough for when it gets really hot out. There are some other options, though.

On the applied hour marker indices and steel hands, you’ll find Seiko’s LumiBrite, which is Seiko’s new luminous material that is said to be brighter and longer lasting than conventional luminous paints. This helps you tell the time even when no light is available. Movement Some say that the recessed crown is one of the 5 features, but since not all of them have it, I’d say that’s probably not the case. Anyway, whether or not these are the actual 5 features that Seiko had in mind when naming the collection, one thing is for sure: each Seiko 5 offers more than that. They always have tended to over-deliver. It doesn’t have any screws, or even pushpins, like most bracelets, so sizing it can be extremely difficult. However, in practice, it’s an excellent movement. The rotor action is quiet. Sure, you can hear it, but that’s that. A considerable advantage of this one is Seiko’s Magic Lever bidirectional winding system, first introduced in 1959. It’s simply a role model for winding efficiency. As someone I know spoke of the Seiko 5, you can just rest on the couch all day, and get up only when you need to, and it’ll still give that movement just enough motion of the rotor to keep it going.Seiko 5 is Seiko’s entry-level mechanical line of watches. They look great, have a robust in-house mechanical movement and are some of the most affordable automatic watches one can buy. Solar-powered watches have several advantages, such as eliminating the need for regular battery replacements or charging through external power sources and reducing environmental impact by minimizing the disposal of batteries. What is the difference between the Seiko SNXS79K and the Seiko SNXS79K1?
