But when the fleeing Eisenstein is damaged by enemy fire, it becomes stranded in the warp – the realm of the Dark Powers. In the Warp the ship's Geller engines fail, allowing a horde of undead rotting Plague Marines aboard. Still a thoroughly entertaining read, and a fantastic alternate view of some of the events of the opening trilogy. Can Garro and his men survive the depredations of Chaos and get his warning to the Emperor before Horus's plans reach fruition?

The rich language and detailed descriptions Swallow used in this book impressed me and Keebles performance kept me engaged. I have still yet to find a Space Marine Legion I can really class as my favourite, but the Death Guard certainly left a good impression upon me, particularly where Garro was concerned, as he was an engaging character.

He clings to the rising Lectitio Divinitatus to keep faith when he runs out of good ideas and only has bad ones, like marooning the titular Eisenstein in space. This book is bloody brilliant and seriously one of Swallows crowning achievements of his great, if vacillating in quality, work with Black Library. it reads fast, you will see a Primach konfronted with gruesome truth and learn a few things about imperial space ships. I have enjoyed the series to now but I felt this was a fantastic demonstration of supreme writing for the genre that deserved a top review just for that. However, Swallow pulls off some strong characters including Garro, managing to deliver some memorable scenes such as Mortarion signing Garro’s death warrant, helping to prevent the book from becoming your typical Bolter-Porn book.

Tarvitz tells Garro of the imminent Virus Bombing and after commanding the Eisenstein to fire on the traitors pursuing Tarvitz to the surface he moves to deal with Grulgor and his men. Bellissimo, affascinante, a tratti inquietante perchè Swallow è riuscito ad andare a fondo della psicologia degli Astarti. Garro is a very well written character and grows on the reader very quickly, and it helps that we at least seen him from another POV in the previous books.I had planned to go back and give False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, and this a more in depth look as I did with Horus Rising, as well as taking a break to catch up on some other reading, but I am absolutely on the grips of the worst pain, fatigue, and conversion symptoms flare up I've had in years, so I can barely think or move a lot of the time. This story rewinds a bit from the end of book 3 and then picks up events that coincide with Horus' treacherous activities. Radnja ove knjige se preplice sa radnjom predhodne te mozemo videti iz jos jednog ugla Horusovu izdaju i zverstvo pocinjeno na Isstvanu III.

The Eisenstein prepares to jump to the Warp but this is noticed by the Terminus Est, ship of Death Guard First Captain Calas Typhon who is one of the traitor leaders. But it has to be mentioned, that the every time the narrator encounters an 's' - your headphones are going to explode.Un crescendo di narrazione e di dettagli, con l'ingresso di numerosi personaggi importanti, tra i quali alla fine Lord Malcador, Reggente della Terra, il secondo dopo l'Imperatore stesso.
