It's the same story with graphics. The Google Pixel 4 XL actually outperformed the Galaxy Note 10 on 3DMark's Sling Shot Extreme test, with a score of 5,806 to the Note 10's 5,374. The iPhone 11 Pro outpaces both with a 6,163 score. It's not as if the Pixel 4 XL is a pokey smartphone. Running demanding apps like PUBG Mobile, I didn’t experience any lag even playing the game at its highest settings. Running multiple apps at once didn’t fluster the Pixel 4 XL either. This is a very capable flagship, just not the fastest Android phone around. Google Pixel 4 XL review: Battery life The battery type is determined by its structure and more specifically, by the chemicals used in it. There are different battery types and some of the most commonly used in mobile devices are the lithium-ion (Li-Ion) and the lithium-ion polymer battery (Li-Polymer).

As for the front-facing camera suite, to make room for the Soli radar chips placed alongside the front-facing lenses, the two selfie shooters present in last year’s model have been reduced to just one 8MP camera. It’s pretty apparent when taking portrait mode shots, which have admirable but obviously software-generated depth effects added after the photo is taken. Like most of the other best Android phones released at this time, the Google Pixel 4 XL uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile processor, and the results are about what you'd expect when it comes to performance. Google's new Pixel keeps pace with the top-performing Android phones to come out in the last 10 months, though it's certainly not the fastest phone. And it's still no match for Apple's latest iPhones. Information about the electric current (amperes) and voltage (volts) the charger outputs. The higher power output allows faster charging. Coming straight from Google means the Pixel 4 XL will be in the first wave of Android upgrades immediately after they go public. Other phones, even flagships from Samsung, often have to wait months (if not the better part of a year). Don't buy it if... There's just one problem with Google Assistant—the latest verison doesn't work with G Suite accounts. That means if you have a work or school account managed by Google, you'll have to choose between leaving the account off your phone or relying on the older version of Google Assistant. Google hasn't released a timeline for fixing this issue, but we can't imagine it will neglect paying G Suite customers for too long. With the new Dual Exposure mode just a screen tap away in the main camera modes (which lets you fiddle with brightness and shadow), we found it plenty easy to tweak your image before you take it.

It should come as no surprise that photos taken with the rear cameras on the Pixel 4 are stunning. We tested the camera in both daylight and low-light settings, and all of our test photos look crisp, without a hint of noise. Photos with Night Sight are also gorgeous, if a little oversaturated. There’s a little bit of a learning curve with remembering which direction to swipe to advance and rewind songs, though nothing like the clumsy controls that characterize previous attempts to add gesture controls to phones. Google’s gestures really work, right out of the box, without you having to devote hours of study to Motion Sense. If anything, Motion Sense is a little too responsive, as my colleague Adam Ismail found himself skipping and then rewinding songs when his gestures weren’t abrupt enough. Me, I found that if you talk with emphatic hand gestures, there’s a risk, however slight, that Motion Sense will think you’re trying to control your phone when you’re just trying to drive home a point.Ismail, Adam (October 23, 2019). "Google Pixel 4 Review". Tom's Guide . Retrieved November 4, 2019.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 855 processor combined with 6GB RAM is good, but isn’t class-leading. Despite this, it powers the Google experiences well and there are some great software flourishes here. The recording app, for example, can capture live transcription that is incredibly accurate. The front sensors can detect motion around the Pixel, pulsing the screen on. This motion-sensing also enables an interactive Pokémon wallpaper that is adorable, if you’re a Poke-fan. Google confirmed the device's design in June 2019 after renders of it were leaked online. The hardware gets a lot right

Singh, Manish (October 15, 2019). "Google Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL not launching in India". TechCrunch . Retrieved August 19, 2023. The most significant software improvements happen in Night Sight, Google's low-light imaging software. In addition to algorithm tweaks that enhance color accuracy and composition, a new feature called Astrophotography uses long exposures to capture images of the night sky, stars, and planets. Huawei introduced a similar feature earlier this year on the P30 Pro, but we've yet to compare the two side by side. The process takes up to four minutes and requires the phone to remain perfectly still for the best shot. a b c d Bohn, Dieter (October 15, 2019). "Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL hands-on: this time, it's not about the camera". The Verge . Retrieved October 16, 2019. The move pays off, but only slightly. During testing for our Google Pixel 4 XL review, the phone lasted 9 hours, 42 minutes when we tested using T-Mobile's LTE network. That's better than what the Pixel 3 XL did, and more than an hour-and-a-half better than the the Pixel 4, which barely lasted more than 8 hours. So if you value longevity, the Pixel 4 XL is the Google phone to get. The L2 (level 2) cache memory is slower than L1, but has a larger capacity, instead, which allows it to cache more data. Just like L1, it is much faster than the system memory (RAM). If the CPU does not find the data needed in L2, it proceeds to look for them in the L3 cache memory (if there is such) or in the RAM.

As for the 4 XL’s internal specifications, the more power-efficient Snapdragon 855 processor makes its first appearance in a Pixel phone. Qualcomm’s flagship chipset is due to be superseded soon, but it ensures the 4 XL can go toe-to-toe with the very best of the current flagship crop. The Pixel 4 XL introduces several new app perks and features which seem like great little additions that, let’s face it, not everyone will use. They’re cool to have, just disparate in their focus. And some of them are even coming to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a - not all, but enough of the big ones. When streaming multimedia, the Pixel 4's stereo speakers top out at 90dB and offer crisp, clean sound. Peak earpiece volume comes in at 76dB, which is loud enough to hear in most situations. The same goes for the speakerphone, which peaks at 80dB. These results were the same across both phone sizes.Like last year’s Pixel phones, the new Pixels offer 18-watt fast charging with the adapter included in the box. I plugged the drained Pixel 4 XL in after our battery test and got up to a 43% charge after 30 minutes. The Pixel 4 XL supports wireless charging, too, and you don't need a Pixel Stand to take advantage of fast wireless charging (though you will need a Qi-compatible charger with Extended Power Profile support.)
