About this deal

High volume launchers don't require as high of a pressure to get good results. This is a great option for kids where 20-30 pounds is just about the limit of what you can do with a bike pump. Lightly screw the launch tube into the street elbow. This will need to be easily unscrewed later to transport the launcher.

Fantastic instructable! Thanks for taking the time to put all this together. I really appreciate all the shared learnings from your experiments. I can't wait to put this together for all our nieces and nephews at the family reunion. I made a very detailed video on how to build a launcher, but since it is such a long video, I made this tutorial as well since seeing the steps one at a time is sometimes easier. If you have any questions, more than likely they are in this video. Or if you just prefer video instructions, take a look here: Only issue is the 9v battery life. With 3 batteries in series from my test it only lasted for a day (4 hours). That can get pretty expensive considering.AFTER a few hours, the glue should be fully set. It only takes a couple minutes for the glue to hold, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious. I usually wait a full day just in case. Tape will stop a bit of the damage caused by the invisible light of the day star. And it will [hopefully] prevent nasty shards of PVC from flying about in the event of catastrophic failure. The as yet untested idea being that good reinforced duct tape can provide enough give to let the PVC break and release pressure, and enough strength and grip to keep tiny shards from completely separating.

I'd love to see more on how you built your buttons. I'm looking at finding a cheap NO momentary button wired to a few 9v bats in a 3d printed case. Never allow students to use the launcher unsupervised. Disable the launcher by removing the battery (or pump or launch tube) if you have to leave the launcher unsupervised. Use a piece of wood with a clamp to use as an end-stop. on a miter saw. This makes it much easier to four short pieces of PVC that are all the same size.PVC Primer is usually purple and both stains and dissolves like crazy. It also smell bad. Be careful with it. Put down a drop cloth and wear old clothes and do this work in a well ventilated area (like outside). There always seems to be a little bit of primer left on the lip of the can, blot it up with paper towel so you don't spill it! Prime both parts that you're joining, and then apply glue to both parts to be joined. You want enough glue that you see it pushing out of the connection, but not so much that it drips or runs. Do not prime all of the pieces first - they're only likely to get grimy while you're glueing. Only prime as you go. Tip: It is often very useful to insert a non-glued piece into an elbow to help get the angle right for the other side of the elbow that you are gluing. I found most of the parts at Lowe's. With the exception of the Tee connectors and the SCH80 nipples, everything else was available at Home Depot as well. Insert your threaded connections all the way and glue them in place to ensure that the desired alignment/angles/seal is achievable once glued. Twist the parts as you insert them. This really does help to ensure that everything is evenly glued. Just make sure they're pointed in the right direction when you're done. The glue does not take long to dry. Hold the parts together for about 10-20 second - they will try to push apart! After that the parts should be pretty solid, but hold off on high pressure for a day.
